I grew up in a Christian home. And I grew up and realized that I don't have to live like that. I didn't really quit being a Christian, I just grew up and out-grew religion. It was easy to let it go.
I enjoyed reading the works of Joseph Campbell who pointed out that ALL religions steal each other's metaphors for the spiritual, including Christianity, which was NOT the first religion. It wasn't even the second. And, yes, Christianity stole MANY, if not most, of the spiritual teachings from other religions. And they RE-WORDED it so that people will think that it was an original text when it certainly was NOT! Today, if anybody were caught stealing someone else's work they would be accused of plagiarism.
Most people don't even know that.
