Coolest Religion ?

Which song do you mean, Fred? The word “fight” does not figure in John Lennon’s song. He does use the word “kill” however. John Lennon was certainly a fighter. I am sure that what he was saying was that too many people have been killed in the name of religion. I think that is a indisputable fact. He talks of “a brotherhood of man” and obviously that is worth fighting for but it is absurd to kill to achieve this end.

Forgive me, I should have been clearer. By fighting I meant upto and including, if necessary, killing and dieing.

Come again? I thought he was a musician and a peace campaigner.

I agree killing would be an absurd means to that ends. However I think it is a slightly meaningless concept, a brotherhood is defined by who is within it and who is outside of it. If everyone is your brother (or sister) then, frankly, no one is.

JL talked of a brotherhood of man. JC said “Love thy neighbour”. JC was more PC of course but the 2 concepts are very similar. You don’t get the success JL had in the UK, the USA etc. without being a fighter, Fred. Musicians and peace campaigners are 2 a penny, successful musicians don’t come so cheap. Ask Paul McCartney if John Lennon was a fighter! There is no contradiction in being a peace campaigner and being a fighter.

Is a man in a country far away of whom I know nothing my neighbour? If he is then what one earth does neighbour mean?

I do indeed get the success he had as a peace campaigner (even if I suspect he was to an extent riding the crest of a wave). I beg to differ, there is a contradiction between being peace campaigner and being a fighter, you can't be both at the same time, for exactly the same reason logical you can't have peace and war simletaneously. One can argue for a peaceful solution right up to the moment there is no option but to take up arms (be they literal or metaphorical) or give-in, and then take up arms. There is no inherent contradiction in a peace campaigner becoming a fighter or vica versa.

Sorry to hear that you have that point of view. Pure internal peace and harmony remains no matter the state. It just is. So it being a world worth fighting for becomes unimportant, non-existent.

Pure internal harmony is all very well but it doesn't unseat tyrants, it doesn't give homes to the homeless, or food to the starving.

No, but it does stop them bellyaching about their problems and making all the "haves" feel so guilty ... dammit :frown:
