In this particular excerpt from the 1989 performance of Beethoven's 9th, the word Freude was substituted by the word Freiheit, so the 4th movement became Ode An die Freiheit (Ode to Freedom) instead of Ode An die Freude (Ode to Joy). The concert, conducted by Leonard Bernstein, was performed to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall.
