US politics, justify being a gay republican
#1
Three Republican debates have produced three occasions of extraordinary moral callousness.

We are witnessing a kind of theatre of cruelty?

-GOP debate, the audience cheered when a question was asked whether society should just let an uninsured man in a coma die. “Yeah!” several members of the crowd yelled out.

-In another , Texas Gov. Rick Perry was asked about having authorized 234 executions, more than any other governor in modern U.S. history. The crowd cheered this accomplishment of death and Perry said, “I’ve never struggled with that at all,” referring to execution as “the ultimate justice.”

- in the most recent GOP debate, one question, posted to YouTube, came from a U.S. Army soldier serving in Iraq asked Rick Santorum if he would try to “circumvent the progress” that has been made in allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly, effectively reinstating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The audience booed him.

the republicans are a political party of hate. government by fear to distract the remaining middle class while their savings, homes are de-rated and their retirements are embezzled to nothing. if a citizen becomes sick all is lost in the bankruptcy courts.

to the gay republican people out there how do you justify your attachment to the republican party. this is not social concervatism.

It's true, the cruelty is almost pornographic at this point.

Texas has even begun denying "last meals" to those about to be executed.

It's all so sickening on many different levels.

the original thought was to bring out discussion (if any) how one can justify being a social conservative and still align one self with such hate and despair. be nice.

We in Europe have got the 'Human Rights Act 1998' in Europe I wonder how Texas Governor Rick Perry would cope with that?

Human Rights Act

You have the responsibility to respect other people's rights, and they must respect yours.
Your human rights are:
the right to life
freedom from torture and degrading treatment
freedom from slavery and forced labour
the right to liberty
the right to a fair trial
the right not to be punished for something that wasn't a crime when you did it
the right to respect for private and family life
freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and freedom to express your beliefs
freedom of expression
freedom of assembly and association
the right to marry and to start a family
the right not to be discriminated against in respect of these rights and freedoms
the right to peaceful enjoyment of your property
the right to an education
the right to participate in free elections
the right not to be subjected to the death penalty

I don't know if there are gay republicans on gay speak, perhaps . . . if there are, then I have not seen them.

But, here is the Mission Statement from the Log Cabin Republican's Web Page:

Mission and Objectives

We stand for the proposition that all of us are created equal - worthy of the same rights to freedom, liberty, and equality.

Log Cabin works to build a stronger, more inclusive Republican Party by promoting the core values of limited government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, free markets and a strong national defense while advocating for the freedom and equality of gay and lesbian Americans. We emphasize that these principles and the moral values on which they stand are consistent with the pursuit of equal treatment under the law for gay and lesbian Americans.

The mission of the Log Cabin Republicans shall be advanced at the local, state, and federal level. Our organization's strength comes from our grassroots chapters all around the nation. Coordinating strategy with the national office, these chapters create a powerful force for transforming the Republican Party.

We are loyal Republicans working for change within the party. Through education and action, we demonstrate that gay and lesbian Republicans can, in a spirit of solidarity and integrity, contribute substantially to building and sustaining a majority Republican Party and a great nation.

This effort will help secure full equality for gays and lesbians. Plus, it will create a stronger, larger, and more unified GOP, leading to the election of more fair-minded Republican candidates to public office at all levels of government.

I imagine he would be just fine with them, since many countries in Europe manage to circumvent several of these statutes. Especially the freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and freedom to express your beliefs.
