Occupy Wall St---I warned you, didn't I?

Bowyn Aerrow Wrote:Gilhooy,

Do you also sit on your porch screaming 'Get off the lawn!!!!' ?

I don't have a lawn. I live in a 250 unit senior citizen bldg. I am surrounded by people who suspect I am some kind of CIA agent. They are horrified I am the only tenant with internet access. They can't believe a 65 year man might like the internet. My neighbors like to sit around the community room listening to Pat Boone and tough guys like that. There favorite song is How Much Is That Doggie In The Window. I asked if they heard of the Beatles. One lady said Yes. We have an album composed of instrumental tunes written by the Beatles. I said I heard that album when I got stuck on an elevator.
I tried an early reference to rock 'n roll. Do you guys remember who opened for the Young Rascals in 1966 in Central Park. Surprised I realize 1966 was way to new. I grimaced and said Jimi Hendrix opened and blew me away. Everyone stared blankly and said Jimmy Who. I said Hendrix was not part of the Who. Pete Townshend was part of the Who. What are you talking about John My neighbors average around 75. The guy who has the most on the ball is 92. I talk about Obama. He talks about Hoover and the Depression.
I tell myself you were one of the first baby boomers born. I was born 9 months after Hiroshima. Apparently my parents were glad Japan got blown away.
I am currently suspected of being the guy who plays the blues too loud on the 5th floor. I deny I ever heard of the blues. I have an old black woman as neighbor and I accuse her of being the one who plays the blues.
I do like to rant. If I didn't I would wind up dirt napping. Fuck everybody. If I'm dead I'll tell you. I will not commit sucide to appease Republicans who don't like Social Security and Medicare. Fuck you 9 9 9 guy you strike me as the most fucked up right winger I ever heard.
Thanks for your post.

WesHollywood Wrote:"Homosexuality," Plato wrote, "is regarded as shameful by barbarians and by those who live under despotic governments just as philosophy is regarded as shameful by them, because it is apparently not in the interest of such rulers to have great ideas engendered in their subjects, or powerful friendships or passionate love-all of which homosexuality is particularly apt to produce."

Yes, It is important to speak when you have something important to say. The post was aimed at the unnecessarily negative ways people were speaking to each other on this thread, though it certainly has larger social implications as well.

The quote you provided is not unfamiliar to me. Plato wrote many similar things. Indeed, there is a very interesting quote he wrote regarding Harmodius and Aristogeiton--two lovers who were said to have lead the revolt which created the Athenian Democracy--in the Symposium.

If you are interested in such things, I would suggest reading the Symposium and the Phaedrus--if not also the Republic. But, you must be careful which translation you chose to read, as translators can often have their own political agenda. For instance, in the quote you provided above, the word "homosexuality" is ahistoric and is likely placed their for contemporary political reasons. There is no word equivalent to homosexual or homosexuality in Attic Greek.

Anyway, they had their own revolutions and now a new generation is seeking a revolution. One thing we have to be wary of is, if there is to be a revolution of any sort, what direction will it take and by what means will it be established? Revolutions end more frequently in dictatorships than democracies.

Here is last nights report on the 99% from my favorite liberal pundit, Ed Schultz. I like Chris Mathews too, but Ed Schultz reminds me of those old union Dems who are real pissed off most of the time.

Looks like Phase 2 of the Occupy Wall Street Movement. We GLBT are all on board here, right? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/...3#45348333

Offtopic Off topic, but please do go on!

Spent my first two years at UCDavis, glad to see my former classmates supporting the 99ers, and on CBS no less! http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-5732...?tag=stack Good show!

as if this comes as no surprise:
On Saturday, MSNBC reported that a Washington lobbying firm with ties to the financial industry has proposed an $850,000 plan to promote "negative narratives" about Occupy Wall Street and politicians who might express sympathy for the protests.

Got to tell you I have been to Occupy L. A. once, but have driven past several times. I just don't have the time to do more. However, I found these 99%, Occupy Wall Street bumper stickers, (vinyl not paper). http://www.cafepress.com/+occupy-wall-st...r-stickers I ordered one.

I took off my Obama 2012 sticker after he announced he threw Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid under the bus in the debt ceiling debate. I angrily removed my DNC supplied 2012 bumper sticker in the garage late that night. Please check out the 99%, Occupy Wall Street stickers and express yourself.

You have provided an important link. The right wing propaganda machine perceives a threat from the 99%, and well they should. While we see fragments of 99er plans, the media sees OWS as entering phase 2. The honeymoon is over, get yourself a 99er bumper sticker.

Here comes the 1% propaganda money machine.

Msnbc - lulz.... That's the liberal answer to Faux, er, Fox.

What does the BBC or Pravda have to say - they tend to be less involved and report more accurately. Hell the Onion is more accurate in news reporting that MSNBS and Faux
