Zachary Quinto posted the following note on his blog this morning:

"when i found out that jamey rodemeyer killed himself - i felt deeply troubled. but when i found out that jamey rodemeyer had made an it gets better video only months before taking his own life - i felt indescribable despair. i also made an it gets better video last year - in the wake of the senseless and tragic gay teen suicides that were sweeping the nation at the time. but in light of jamey's death - it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it - is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay lesbian bisexual and transgendered citizen of this country. gay kids need to stop killing themselves because they are made to feel worthless by cruel and relentless bullying. parents need to teach their children principles of respect and acceptance. we are witnessing an enormous shift of collective consciousness throughout the world. we are at the precipice of great transformation within our culture and government. i believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society - and it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action. jamey rodemeyer's life changed mine. and while his death only makes me wish that i had done this sooner - i am eternally grateful to him for being the catalyst for change within me. now i can only hope to serve as the same catalyst for even one other person in this world. that - i believe - is all that we can ask of ourselves and of each other."

The events of gay bullying in the last few years are part of what have inspired me to go to law school. Though I'm leaving the conservative south for greener pastures either up north or out west, I still feel it is a global issue so no matter where I go I can be of use with a JD degree and advocacy career. I read that quote in an article, and I applaude him for speaking up on the issue, as well as finally coming out lol. I second your thanks.

If only these kids could see the impact that they make under such tragic circumstances and how they can influence other peoples lives and channelled that deep despair into something much more positive, they could spend the rest of their lives through adulthood holding the hands of those that need their hands held.

Stories like Jamey's just seem to be becoming more prevalent in recent times and it is honestly gutting me every time I read about.

I just wish that there was a way that I personally could reach out to these boys and girls in their moment of despair and pull them back from the brink.

How can we do that?

Well he came out publicly, let's say. We don't know whether or not he was out in his local sphere of family and friends. Probably.

Maybe, just by being here, dfiant, and supporting them when they are troubled.

You're welcome

Oh, not me,

Quinto is awesome. I loved him on Heroes as Sylar and I was so freakin in to his character and him as Spock. MAYBE THIS IS WHY.

I know realistically that is about all we can do, but somehow when I hear these stories I personally feel that not enough was done, not that I feel responsible, just so bloody horrible that it has happened when people like you, me and the hundreds of great people here WANT to be there.

I know it should be enough that we are here, but 14 and 15 year olds commiting suicide...it's like there is a link missing between us and them, you know what I mean?

ah the missing link? you really want to know? the missing link is not the bridge from point a to point b, but the car that is supposed to cross. many throw themselves off that bridge because they are not in a car. and that car is their bravery. they need a better way to unite amongst themselves. they need to fight with each other and for each other. but many of those teenagers were to afraid to open themselves. i dont think they were reassured by their peers enough. in a world of so many gays coming out, they feel like their cases are invalid. just another statistic. they need a person to be there. to be their back bone. a closeted youth wouldnt dare join a gltb club in their school. i think these clubs need to make a box where students who dont want to show up at these meetings put their names in and then the main office send them a note through there teachers for a private get together with a gltb club member or someone whose been down their road. idk. just a thought...

Honestly you have to look for them. They're everyone online, they just don't go looking for help mostly. They're scared and looking for help other than in their own lives is the last thing on their minds probably. Trevor Line though I'm glad is gaining some traction to help these kids.

Lol, no, not you. I did spell it with an H, actually, Zack... You'll have noted the difference, surely? But thanks for being there too. Confusedmile:
