Think of how he could have accelerated gay issues. Where is a Harvey Milk when you need him and he was a late 70's kinda thing.

He wouldn't have done anything on the national/global level.

He was virtually unknown beyond San Francisco. It was his being martyred that gave him a real voice.

Had he lived, he most likely would have been just one more anonymous face in the crowd.
