'Different' Gay Films

'From the Life of the Marrionettes' is a really good gay film from the 80s by Ingmar Bergman.

sweetlad86 Wrote:Hey just read a review for this film which is called Bent made in 1997 by Sean Mathias. Never heard of him though..

The film is about two gay German men who are forced in to a concentration camp for their sexual preference. Despite not knowing each other, the two manage to form a relationship which is entirely chaste - and yet more emotional and sexual (without sex) than a couple co-habitating. If you have not seen this film, watch it - the sex scenes (without sex) are completely unique to stage and screen. It will tie you up in knots, but it is definitely worth it.

I haven't see it yet but I think it sounds really good..

This is another really difficult film to watch. It is an amazing film, but so difficult to watch.

I tried to stop watching dark gay films and am glad that there are more positive films out there today... but if you want to watch a very dark film by Fassbinder (the German Gay Hitchcock - sort of, IMHO) try to find In A Year of 13 Moons In einem Jahr mit 13 Monden (1978)

Interesting... never heard of this but have seen Scenes from a Marriage which is where the characters are based... Didnt know this was "gay themed". Thanks for passing that on.

I think I mite be getting two films mixed up.

Any one know what the name of these films are called??

The Channel 4 film I think is called "My Beautiful Laundrette"

Yeah your right there.

I think I watched it when I was 12 or 13 years old, and really loved it, it reminded me of my life at the time.

My Beautiful Laundrette is a terrific film, probably one of the best of the 80s.

I think 'In & Out' is a funny, quirky and clever movie. The cast are all excellent, and how many of us who are of a certain vintage hasn't fantasized about Tom Selleck being out and available?

I watched Adam And Steve On LOGO our national Gay cable channel the other day and thought it was different and very entertaining to watch at least once. Angels in America is repeating again which is my all time favorite movie.

Here's another one. Trick, its about what happens on an attempted one-night stand between an aspiring musical theatre writer/composer and a go-go boy. Needless to say things do not go as planned.

I found that movie kind of annoying.

In & Out that is.

I saw quite an interestingly quirky gay film not long ago, "Bent" and certainly doesn't fit the typical "Happy - Tragic - Happy Ending" format.

Also arguably RENT is significantly different, although with an overall happier ending than Bent, but still very individual. *Nods*

Would it be really despicable of me to just put porno names here and pretend they're credible films?? I mean, to be fair you don't have to have seen The Fireman's Hose 1 and 2 to enjoy The Fireman's Hose 3, but they're still very enjoyable viewing...
