It definitely doesn't pose a problem for me, it's just something that I find very curious to note.
So, in the time we've known each other, you've come to know that my country works pretty much like an island, so I'm not a stranger to all the factors that lead people to be ingrained to their homelands in that level.
It's not a bad thing, of course, identity is important. But usually problems arise when you have to function elsewhere, especially outside the borders of your home country. More often than not, I have to be honest, I think that kind attachment and the waves of nationalism do people disservice.
I you were to ask me I'd say that the "traditional culture" of this country is a separated thing from what most of the urban population lives. You could also say that said "general urban life" is a "culture" on its own and we just call it "everyday life".
In any case, when it comes to places outside of the borders, South Americans in general put nationality ahead of anything to differentiate, even beyond cultural difference (or similarities!).
That's probably part of my own lil issue I supposes lol.
Because I really haven't had to "operate" outside of here, with the recent exception of England for them 4 months, and we all who knew what I (constantly) complained about, know how I can now see what you mean by doing a disservice.
But yes hun, identity is probably our biggest crutch and hindrance as well as most important thing as Humans to have.
Just lemme know when I go overboard bitch! Cause I may be prone to doing so from time to time xD
