It's no wonder it got such accolades
You don't see a lot of movies like that here in the USA either, especially when it's viewing black American male masculinity with empathy. I've never seen a movie like that before. It definitely deserves the attention it's gotten.
I'm also in love with Janelle Monae. It's good seeing her in movies now. I haven't seen Hidden Figures yet, but from the clips, she looks like she kills it in that too.
If you're interested in more of the American black experience, I'm Not Your Negro is on limited release right now, it's from the unfinished book by James Baldwin. I don't know if it's going to touch on sexuality, but it's definitely about race. It's already getting a lot of buzz and I'm looking forward to seeing it, even though I hear it's not exactly a feel good movie. He was one of those life changing authors for me.
