Don't back off, stay close. Tell her you are there for her, that you won't leave her no matter what the problem is. Tell her that you want to solve that problem for her or at least be by her side.
Keep telling her that you love her and she is very important to you. Over and over. Don't rely on "she knows"
If the depression is bad and she doesn't now what causes it, you may want to offer her to take her to a therapist.
She may also have some medical problems. Or be pregnant.
