The only other good idea I had was to get him tickets to a favourite show, but that depends on what he likes and what's coming up... you can get some cool 'experience' gifts now where you get to drive fast cars for a day, things like that, but they tend to be expensive.
Last birthday I got my hubby a sweet-ass Superdry wallet; it cost a fair bit (like £30) but he uses it all the time and its a brand he really liked. Kinda cute tho too cos he has to use it and knows it's from me...

you can always go with lots of small gifts too, I kinda like that - I threw in a pin-badge and some funky glowsticks... add a little xmas card and bring on the brownie points!
