We do it anyway, not because we are gluttons for punishment but because we care about the security of this country. I have been in the Army for 8 years, and even though the Army does not support my lifestyle, I support the Army, because the Army is a necessary component of our society. After reading the above I realize it could be taken the wrong way. I don't mean to demean those who never served. I just think that those of us who do deserve more respect.

And, Look at the years long war that was waged by the United States in Vietnam, not to mention Cambodia. Of course there was a draft then.
57,000 Americans were killed in that useless war.
The truth is that Vietnam never did a thing to harm or provoke the United States. Why President Johnson got bogged down in that bottomless pit still puzzles me to this day.
