Late Night Expeditions

Okay, so I decided to post some pics of a few of the animals at our Museum & Zoo :p . I don't work there any more, but I try to stalk them, every Sunday (j/k)

I can't remember... Caribou? :p (don't mind the reflection of my sis :p )

No, I don't think that that is a Caribou . . . perhaps a Pudu or some other type of South American deer. Caribou live in the far North (Canada and Alaska) and are relatively large animals. It is hard to tell from the photo though.

Edit: Outside of North America the Caribou is known as the Reindeer.

It looks alot like that Pudu, but I really can't remember the name of it :confused: . These pictures were taken last year in August(we went for my sister's birthday :p ).

Oh the top one is a Possum? I thought they had really big eyes :p . That must be so cool to have them .

Yeah, it actually was my mom's at first, but then she gave it to me, cause she doesn't like the wooly-fleecy feel of it .

I had a Music covered bed cover, but my new mattress is too big :o, so Mr.Tiger here protects me against any danger .

I always wake up and give it a pet on the paw :p .

Okay, so last night was a particularly wet and sticky night :p , so there was a lot of activity. I could hear the Tree Frogs whistling, but I couldn't move, because literally, my entire backyard was full of Rumina Decolotta (Spiral Snails) and Tropical Leatherleaf Slugs and various little bugs and I didn't want to step on them, so I had to stay on the step. My Frog Trap (which is basically just a container with water in it, cause they're attracted to still water) hasn't worked so far, but I'll give it until tomorrow morning :p .

If I could take a picture in detail of my whole yard, you'd see nothing but Snails and Slugs literally mowing the grass. You can hear them eating .

~Special Update: Rescue~

Oh wow it's been dog years since I updated here . I keep forgetting to take pictures when I go out at night .

Most of the creatures out now are majoritively bugs and frogs, not so many snails :frown: .

Anyway, Just a few minutes ago, I came across a flying cockroach[we have them alot here], but I noticed the little bugger[lol "bug"ger :biggrin: ] couldn't fly, cause it looks like his wings/flaps were covered in spider webs.

Also one of his back legs wasn't working properly and he was dragging it behind him.

Now, I usually don't like huge roachs or spiders, but anytime I see an animal in distress/need or just in general , I have to help it. It's a compulsion.

I caught the little fella and released him outside where he'd have a better chance at survival, then crawling around my kitchen floor where I found him and where he would've likely been squished for no reason.

I actually wasn't scared when I looked at it upclose like I thought I would be. Kinda cute in a creepy way :tongue:

Anyway, I snapped a few photos of his short, but needed rescue .

I'm really glad I stopped my Grandmother from squishing him. Now he might have a better chance out there. I would've tried to rehabilitate it, but I have no clue how to care for roaches[Other than what to feed them], so I let nature take over .

I'll try to take more pictures from now on :biggrin: . But when I do officially start at the Zoo, It probably won't be as frequent

~Update~

We had some serious rainfall yesterday... 2inches! So I decided to take advantage, as I know most animals become active after rainfall.

There were frogs in a huge abundance!! Babies... Juveniles... Adults! I even saw a male calling, with his blue throat popping out!

Unfortunately we're not too close to a pond, so I didn't see any Bufo Marinus, but that's okay

He was special, he let me pick him up and he sat in my hand for a long while. Usually they jump, but I suppose even these little guys have personalities

oh, you rescue cockroaches... :eek:

I was forced to live with those smaller ones in China (at a big apartment house). You would be in heaven... Nobody could have forced me to go into the kitchen at night.
If I really had to, I turned on the light, run away and when all of them were gone after half an hour I was willing to go in there.
Those big ones lived there too, but fortunately not at our house.
