Things aren't getting better here for children either. Last night a news programme did a segment on the difference between a decile 10 and decile 1 school.
The decile 10 school had all the children with balanced and filling lucnhes. All but one had eaten breakfast, and all but about 3 had fruit.
The other school had only a couple of children with lunches, and they were no better than a packet of chips and a half drunken bottle of soft drink. Many children didn't even have school bags, and there was no fruit in sight except the bucket of school provided kiwifruit, one for each child.
The gap in NZ is widening at a frightening rate. We were a country that in the early-mid 20th century considered to be the best country in the world, some said we were almost like a form of communism that worked flawlessly.
