Well NTACB...err...they're really not my kind.
I even want to vomit when I see the guy bare-chested when he knocks at my door, so imagining them having sex (while eating)...

Nope, the whole of SA is not flat, just there.

Like a gazzillion years ago, the Free state was a huge inland lake,

That dam is in the Free State

Being so flat, the water's edge ebbs and flows quite a distance in relation to the verticle height of the water, which is on average only 3 M deep.

That is why there are no trees.

Bloem dam is primarily an irrigation and over-flow control dam,

It get's it's water from the Vaal dam much higher up the Vaal (Africkaans for grey) river.

The Vaal dam is primerily a water supply for the reef, including Johannesburg, and an irrigation supply dam

NTACB good to know..

I grew up in a city that is almost entirely a bunch of hills put together..and my geographical zone is full of heights everywhere...

so to see a landscape and not see an elevation....it scares me for some reason

You where talking about wide open, flat space. If you've ever been to sea, thats about as big and flat as it get's...

Mind you, in the Kalagadie, you can hear the silence....

Nothing, just silence and billions of rocks and stones, as far as the eye can see, very humbling, can be very intimidating... extriemly cold at night to around 40 -45 Deg C in the day. Awsome, awsome landscape, also frying-pan flat...
