Of course we could always go Biblical here:
David
Damiel
Seth
Solomon
Israel
Isaiah
Noah
Shem
Shadrach
Meshach
Abednego
Peter
Paul
Joseph
....

Sorry, my latest study project has those names in my head. (No your favorite pagan isn't reverting to Christianity, just doing some comparative studies.)

^^^ yeah, yeah riiight.... The dark side, erm, I mean Christian side is winning.Rofl

I don't know, frankly I see nothing wrong with the traditional names. I think that the practice of name giving passing down a name from say grandfather or great grandfather to son is a practical and 'respectful' thing. Assuming Great/Grandfather is a person worth talking about.

The problem with naming your kid something outside of your culture or off the wall like Chewbacca, is that you are setting that kid up for a world of hurt especially in their formative years.

If your last name is Hogg, do not name your daughter Ima. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ima_HoggIf your last name is Ball, don't name your daughter Krystal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krystal_Ball

While both of these women have become very successful, one has to wonder at how much pain they have suffered in silence due to the horrible things children (and adults) would do with such names.
