Hank,
God assured you things would be ok. But that is as far as God may take it because there may be a lesson in this Plan He has for you.
I'm not God, and I don't even try to use the crystal ball on Him. I can only suspect that part of that plan for you is for you to search out like minded individuals and find a new 'home church'. One that accepts you for who you are.

Do a Google search and you find lots of interesting information: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=les%...21&bih=856
Reconciling ones own sexuality with God is one thing, trying to reconcile that to all of God's children is another thing.
I firmly believe that God loves you just the way you are. I also suspect that God finds two men (or two women) in a committed relationship to be as honorable as a man and woman in a relationship. I believe due to spiritual experiences I have had in my walk in life.
Unfortunately human beings are not as loving and tolerant and God and Christ. If anything human beings tend to fall very short of this loving perfection.
God spoke to you to give you the courage and strength to seek more. What that more is I have no idea - I can't read God's mind and I have no idea what his Plan is for you.
I suspect that that plan includes walking a life in Christ. I assume that plan means you will eventually find that one person in the whole world who you are meant to walk in Christ with.
Our pains, and suffering are not meaningless - we all learn things, important things, from our aches and pains. Life is a great school room where we learn much - sure, more often than not we don't get the point of the lessons, but there is a point to it all.
You have had struggles (we all do) and you appear to have over come many things. This too you will overcome - in time. Whose time? God's time.
