i was keen to see the film & surprised that so many actors had been persuaded to get naked & have sex on camera. but I've not seen any of them appear in anything since

i know the film was partially improvised, so maybe the actors ended up going further than they originally planned. perhaps they regret it. but the movie is out on DVD so no-one will ever let them forget it!

Hahaha. You're right. But Shortbus is a work of art or at least a statement of some kind and although the sex is very graphic in parts, it all seems to be very natural, therefore not gross or pornographic, if you see what I mean. Plus they are all young and beautiful, and even the old mayor is beautiful in his own way.

Incidentally, I've deliberately been refraining from watching the whole film as I was keeping it to watch with my darling when he comes back, but I was too curious & had to catch a few scenes. I thought it was thought-provoking and certainly "emotionally intelligent" as one young actress said in Ae Fond Kiss. [Thanks, Ken, for making emotionally intelligent films!]
I am surely not the only one to find sex beautiful and normal when it is expressed naturally.

And btw, I checked up on the actors of this cinematic UFO, and you're right; they don't seem to have done anything else much since then. Maybe it'll take a while for people to adjust to the fact that they've done this film. It took Linda Lovelace some time before she was allowed to forget she'd deepthroated in front of the camera.

In the same vein, if any of you have seen films by French film-maker Catherine Breillat, they will have witnessed straight porn star Rocco doing his thing in a mainstream movie, and it looks quite different, sort of awesome and strangely beautiful (not to say disturbing: it's the emotional stuff going on around the sex scenes, you see). Funnily enough his female partner, who was doing the scenes full-frontally too but is not from the porn scene was definitely putting herself out on the judgement line. Many actresses wouldn't have done it; she could so easily have met disapproval(she didn't meet mine, ) Acting can be such a bold and daring job, and highly risky at times. Kudos to those who can do it, and do it well. I guess in France, we respect that sort of bravura.

Of course, Tom, we've also got to acknowledge the fact that actors and actresses will surely not go into performing in anything light-heartedly. They will, presumably, have thought of the consequences of appearing in this or that film and signed for its release. They will know or realise what response from the public to expect or not expect. Which is why their situation is different from your average Internet user, who may or may not have thought about the consequences of posting a picture, a video or an article here, there and anywhere. While some actors may make dubious choices about their filmography, these choices have to be equated with what is called a career. I think even pornography, these days, seems to be a career move for many (erm...how do they call them?) erm... models.

I'm not sure it is a question of it being ODD, but more a question of it being a STUPID move, sometimes a potentially DANGEROUS move. You can surely understand how dangerous or risky or even damaging it might be to expose your private parts, whether virtually or in real life. It's not very different from wearing something to cover up those parts, for comfort but also to protect what we in French call the family jewels (les bijoux de famille), rather than exposing them to the harshness of climate and weather and the whole surrounding world. Why do most ethnic groups cover those parts up, even in warm climates, if it is not because they are sensitive and vulnerable, and, somewhere along the line ... ultimately precious?

i noticed that french profiles r the only ( chaste ??) in Europe, it seems that your point of view is deeply rooted in french culture

and we here in the most hot climate cover them up because there is a myth that there r gay sucker tropical monisters , and that balls melt down

Speaking as a man who has sent several people I have never met in real life naked pictures of myself I have always been relatively comfortable with showing my body. Perhaps I am not the norm though.

i think most people avoid that dilemma by:
- using a pseudonym on the web, so it is difficult for anyone who already knows them to find their profile & pic
- leaving their face off their pics

but i don't know about you - headless bodies don't really do it for me x

well ... i am not living in a liberal community , and comparison is not valid , but even here i can guess from similar situations that it depends mainly on whether your job requires public contact or not , and the real need for you in the job ..
