I'm with Mister Tinkles (I never thought I'd find myself typing that!) on the matter of personal security. You're almost better talking face to face than texting, at least you can argue that you were misheard or misunderstood. Text messages are on record and depending how your phone companies work may stay that way for some time.

Looks like study abroad may be your best route out, which may help with your other problem. Keep yourself busy at study and you won't have time to miss what you're not getting.

Hello, Adaptive, and to GaySpeak. There isn't much I can say or do to help you for the moment. You have summed up the situation quite clearly. YOU know where you stand, but unfortunately are trapped in a culture that has difficulties admitting that we aren't all built on the same model. I hope you find the courage to resist your urges when it's not safe for you to express them and that you will find someone with whom you CAN express these feelings and still remain safe, even though in secrecy. Oh and Adaptive, thank you for reminding us that our work in terms of human rights and equality is not done till everyone can live safely, expressing their sexual needs and desires without being fearful for their lives or security. A trip abroad would probably help to lower your frustration, but if you return to a country where the laws are unchanged, it will just be harder on you than ever to have known some sort of freedom.

I felt a responsibility to myself to say something about this. I don't know if it's the sleep deprivation, the stress of finals, or my general psychological instability that is the biggest contributor, but that sentence caused me to laugh until I was crying. I'm not lying. I don't mean in that ROFL/LOL internetty kind of way where you say something was funny but it didn't actually make you laugh. I mean I was literally wiping tears away. Thank you.
