Short & sweet, I do think schools stifle not only creativity but also independent & critical thinking, and also destroy an innate desire to learn, and that hurts society and allows bad systems to remain in place...though as mentioned the laws have always favored the wealthy (and looking past the cosmetic changes that's true even in Communist countries). I'd like to see things like the Not Back to School camps as well as many alternatives described in Ecotopia (among others) replace them. ETA: I see a need for alternatives because different kids respond best to different styles, there is no "one size fits all," and the (hopefully friendly) competition would help them each be the best they can be.
It also seems that too many people have a hard time with the "me and the we," a seeming paradox that makes sense to me that combines individualism with a recognition of the value of sharing with others while at the same time society (and government) being more about serving the individual (in the actual way, not in the double-speak way all too common today). Both unbridled individualism (which tends to turn into a "every person for himself, and devil take the hindmost") and collectivization (which generally becomes oppressive, corrupt, and dysfunctional once even the advisers refuse to say anything bad about it out of fear of retaliation and/or losing their own benefits) without balance (and that strikes me as how the majority of the world dys-functions) makes way too many problems. So it comes down to people are wrong with the system...though to an extent it's propagated both intentionally and subconsciously. And at the same time it looks to me is people don't want to change, that's deeply disturbing, what they want is different results from doing the same thing. Some things would be simple to do, in fact there are a small group of people and alternative communities already doing them and proving it's viable, but people would rather trash the planet (if doing minor things like recycling which don't make up for it) while wishing the problems caused by their choices didn't happen rather than making viable changes, because even though it can be done it's strange and alien to them and wonder what the neighbors would think. But one small thing that I think would make a small but noticeable difference is IRV. I was part of an effort to get this changed at the state level which was in turn tied to people in other states doing the same with the hope of eventually making it federal, but the two-party system is the most efficient & cost effective system of control & psy warfare by TPTB to maintain their dominance (and TPTB would be opposed to a one-party system as much as a multi-party system) and so they've monkeywrenched it every chance they got. The media (who are owned by the same people who fund the campaigns of Democrats & Republicans, often both candidates) refused to cover us, even under invite so it was up to us to explain it to people who were way too busy to listen to be bothered by it for the most part so nothing came of it.

What is wrong with Democracy? There is no nation on earth currently applying true Democracy. Where governments say they are democratic the reality is they are Republics.
True Democracy cannot be done on a national level. A true democracy is one where everyone gets a say, a vote on all issues. What is wrong with the 'system'? Politicians mostly. Here in the USA we just had the presidential election. They are already looking to 2016. Its like this for all offices, the politicians are career minded, always working on getting the vote to maintain their job, thus they put far less effort into doing the right things. Politicians are short term thinkers, they are so caught up in securing the next term, few of them actually invest in the long term future. Thus here in the USA the Space program was gutted after the moon landings, because the Politicians instead of seeing the need for continued manned presence in space for exploitation and development of the technologies needed to mine the moon, decided to vote to secure their next election. Health care in the USA took the route it did not because capitalist health care is better than social medicine, but because politicians were worried about their self interests (raising funds for the next campaign) that they voted against national health care when the question was raised after WWII. Today we see the net result, The Richest Nation that ranks below #30 when it comes to health care, when economically and technologically there is no reason for the USA to not be #1 on that list. Each nation has similar struggles, their politicians lead by their own personal interests, not by the interests/needs of the people they are suppose to serve. The Fix? Le guillotine. In all honesty, until the people rise up and start cutting off heads and making it clear that The People will not stand to be treated this way, corruption will continue to erode society. France has enjoyed a long period of the government being terrified of its people. As such many of the social structures in France rank amongst the highest in the world. Why the fear? Le guillotine. Instead of voting for the man who puts the most time and money into a campaign, we need a system to hire on those who want the job the least. The harsh reality is that those who want the job the least would do a far better job at it than those who struggle to get the position in the first place. On economics, the economy is not geared economically. Economics means to conserve and distribute the resources in a reasonable fashion. Capitalism as we know it today is far from economic, in fact with the drive to make more money thus creating cheaper and crappier products that consume natural resources like they are endless Capitalism is pretty much as far as one can get from true economy. The consumer age will go down in history as the stupidest, most wasteful era of human history. That is if we survive it. changes are very high that we as a species will not survive the next 100 years. We are at peak everything. The problem is simply that so few people understand the simple mathematics of percentages and minor growth leading to major growth in the long term. Exponential growth is a bad idea. Growth in of even 1% over the long term is fated to self destruct. We are at the point where all the easy to reach natural resources are being mined/pumped. We are exceeding our ability to produce more resources to keep up with demand. This is how capitalism has lead us all down the wrong path and is leading us to an implosion of everything, from oil to clean drinking water, from copper to gold. It also is what has led to the loss of 90% of the fish in the ocean, has lead to the loss of 60% of the fertile natural soils for farms, has lead to staggering human populations jammed packed into petri-dishes where the next deadly pandemic will level the globe because too many humans live on too little land. What is wrong with the system, everything actually. It is unsustainable, it is wasteful, it is designed to fail and with over 7 billion human beings on earth when it fails it will be a near extinction level event - and not just for humanity, but for many other species as well. Why? because in their folly humans will turn to learning war instead of rational methods to fix problems. With thousands of nuclear warheads laying about you its not a matter of if we have a nuclear war, it is a simple matter of when. The same mentality that leads to houses being built on hills known to slide, cites being built and rebuilt in bowls next to the ocean, and all of the other massively stupid things humans do is the same mentality that causes the extinction of this civilization, and most likely the extinction of the human species.

Democracy (The System)is basically the majority speaking for all minorities. It seems fair until you are forced to kneel on a pillow and face east 4 times a day.
There is no 'FAIR' in a democracy, just what a majority wants and a majority can be as little as 2%...think about it. 100 People, 100 different personalities but we throw religion into the mix and of those 100 people there are only 2 people that agree and the other 98 people have differing beliefs, those 2 people become the MAJORITY and the other 98 people are left behind as a MINORITY. As a minority you don't get equal access to health funds, tax cuts, marriage, because the MAJORITY in a democracy have voted. Nope, nothing wrong with Democracy...except it sucks arse while baby is doing a poo. Oh and another thing wrong...there are far to many politicians and far too many levels of government being paid far too much to do far too little and most politicians are so dangerous in the sense that if their brains were dynamite, they still wouldn't be able to blow their nose. The people should have the power to sack a government, we the citizen after all do pay their wages and we are forced (In most countries) to VOTE

In a day and age where getting the vote of all citizens is easier then EVER before I think true democracy should be applied to an extent. I still believe politicians should still be in place to create the bills and laws to be passed but congress and the senate should loose the power to pass them. Bills that need to be passed should be left to the citizens of the country to decide whether it goes into law or not. In current times it's easier then pie to receive a vote from a majority of citizens now that we have the internet and a huge percentage of the populace has a form of computer that has access to it.
But a policy like this will never happen atleast not in the United States.

Easy it's supposed to be the voice of the common people but if you don't have a ton of money to pay a lobbyist you don't get to say what happens and, you don't vote for the president, you vote to tell someone else how to vote and that someone can be bribed or conned into voting for whoever so, the one with the most money wins.
No business would be open if it were trillions of dollars in debt but the government still is so let us all be trillions in debt and not have debt collectors call or anything then it'd be fair. |
