I can second this, I used to work with someone who has depression. He had a lot of time off of work so I decided to see him and I saw a lot of the stuff which is often hidden from the world, its hard enough trying to pick yourself up when you're down but when its someone else with actual depression then that's a whole different story.

@Kumawool: I wouldn't cast shadows over those you think are "mild disabilities", I've seen people with "major disabilities" live more fulfilling lives then most people I've ever met. You can't generalise these things, everybody copes differently and in my opinon its the amount of coping they do which signifies whether the disability is major or minor for themselves.

rmf Wrote:Hi everyone, I'm thinking along the lines of a physical disability. For example I've got cerebral palsy and I have a limp from it. I also have a curved spine and that causes me to be hunched over a little bit I've had some guys say 'sorry I won't date someone who has a limp as it's embarrassing to be out in public with them', or 'sorry I would be worried of what would happen down the road... in case things got worst."

I've been with my partner now fiancée for 4 years in April... he comes to all of my doctors appointments, etc. Just wondering if you would do the same? I have him a heads up of the disability before we met the first time and told him that if he felt at all uncomfortable the first time meeting he could leave at any time and I would not hold it against him... he's actually gotten quite defensive in someone points and laughs at me while out walking or stuff like that (when it happens its usually teenagers haha)

Physical disabilities are "not here nor there" for me.
If I like someone, I like THEM....the person they are.

Ive seen some extremely cute guys in wheelchairs, or wearing braces, or having limps.
Hell, one guy I dated had a limp, and I didnt care. Although my big mouth made a sarcastic joke one day he took offense too. For me that was my way of saying "hey, dont care you limp, like you anyway". But he didnt see it that way. Of course I apologized for weeks and weeks cause I made him feel bad. I can be such a dick sometimes.

But no, physical issues would not be an issue for me.

I dont think minor mental afflictions would matter too much to me either.
Pretty much all the people I have been around in a work setting have been bipolar, manic depressives, or self-destroyers. Ive learned how to talk and cope with people like this....so I doubt I would even notice it much unless they had some kind of compulsive situation, like constantly washing hands, turning the doorknob three times, only eating "white" foods....but still, I doubt I would care much.

A good person is a good person, no matter if the package is "damaged" or not.
Some of the best surprises come in damaged boxes.

(arent we ALL damaged to some extent anyway?)

It depends. Also it depends of if we were dateing at the time. It may sound shallow but if said disablity ment sex was off the table, I wouldn't persue romance. Freindship is fine though. If they were deaf I probably wouldn't do anything since I don't know sign language <.<

I'd like to believe that a disability regardless of what it is, would not prevent me from falling in love with a guy.

I once dated an amputee. He was amazing and I loved him with all my heart. In the end he decided to go back to his ex-wife and kids (they were divorced 18 months when I met him)
