If there was no religion there would be no war or money to even fight over. So I say destroy all religion and start over.

Please look at what you are saying...What I'm gauging here is you would want to re-write our history pages.
Again religion will always have a place on this planet regardless of the situation, the amount of money the church brings to the nations is just outrageous.
War is something that's deemed necessary for a countries economy to grow, example look at America and how they've benefited in monetary value from going to war.
Please look into delicate subjects more over and gain a better understanding as believe it or not the "church" would have benefited you in one way or another, do you eat anything from the company "Sanitarium" if so do you know its a company that's owned by the church.

As I said religion will never die. As long as there's sheep to be herded.

getting rid of churches might sound like it could sort out a load of problems, but I think there will always be something for people to hide their bigotry behind

Religion has rapidly declined anyway.
at the beginning of the 19th century the whole population of Europe went to church, but by the early 21st century less the 10% did
Not just has religion declined in Europe and America, also.
India
Asia
Africa
middle east
its decline has gone hand in hand with progress of technology, education, and improvment in living standards
is it really worth saying dismantle them, surely that would go hand in hand with some totalitarian rule or dictatorship, and theres always going to be bad people who will hurt others, (religion or not) plus I like the architecture and history of the building as others have mentioned.

I don't know about the rest of the world where socialism is the norm (Damned Commies!:biggrinSmile, but here in the USA with free market capitalism and Democracy (we are so much better and the USA is Number 1!Rolleyes) the idea behind tax exemption is that the social work that a church does for its community is the 'tax' it pays.

For instance the Catholic Church here in the USA 'donates' its services and covers 50% of the social programs that take place in the USA. That is several billions of dollars each year that the Church funnels off to things like homeless shelters, soup lines, etc.

The hospice like program I worked in for several years was 100% funded by the "Religions". At a time where Washington was refusing to acknowledge HIV/AIDS the churches were caring for the sick and dying and doing its best to at least give comfort to those victims.

Had there been no churches in the political climate of the time, I have to wonder what would have become of those victims...

The Constitution of the United States gives me all the freedom I need. If I were to encourage violating its principles to destroy those trying to destroy me, I would encourage those trying to destroy me to violate its principles as well.
"Saint" Thomas Aquinas advocated church critics to be killed. If he's a saint, I don't want to be a saint. I will not stoop to that monster's level.
Destroying religion would not destroy dogmatism.

This is a new one on me. Care to elaborate?

For example, how did religion make Ayn Rand worship the almighty dollar? And how is religion to blame for Communist Romania fighting over resources and being incredibly corrupt (including financially)? Why is China a major player in the market when religion is discouraged?

I'd also be curious what you thought of religions that encouraged repudiating the material world in favor of the next. That includes Christianity, btw, some focus on the parts of the Bible where Jesus said it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man into heaven, said the rich were damned to hell in other places of the New Testament, and I'm sure I recall a story of a couple struck dead by the Holy Spirit for refusing to give up all their money to the cult.
