Tyler Wrote:Like I have said before I do not have all the answers, and as pix has stated is true a good portion of what I believe is from the way I was raised. I was raised in a religiously strict church and family. Recently I have been trying to relearn everything I have been taught. I have been trying to learn for myself, what is right and wrong. For me I believe that God is real and that his son died for my sins so I could be reconciled with God. I also believe that Christ lives in me. I know this to be true because I have felt his presence, in my life, and I have been filled with God's spirit. I have even seen his spirit. As I go through this transition of determining for myself what is right and wrong; the only thing I have other than prayer to turn to for guidance is the Bible. So I will take what everyone has said, and will say and I will meditate on it and pray for God's guidance regarding this issue in my life. As I take this journey and possibly a huge leap of faith in the next days, weeks, months, maybe even years, I ask that you would keep me in your thoughts and prayers (If you pray). So that the truth will be revealed to me, and that I will be able to obtain the best that God has in store for me.
Thanks you for you time and patience in dealing we me. If I have angered or offended anyone or made anyone mad I ask that you please forgive me.
You're a sweet guy Tyler.
You know what? I never say, "Hi" in those introductory threads because a lot of people just come and go. But I responded to yours for some reason.
Another "rule" of mine that I broke, is that I participated in *another* religion discussion. I learned early these topics often spiral out of control.
The thing is, about religion, you either get it, or you don't. Sort of like being gay!
A lot of people cannot reconcile the two together, being gay and Christian. I feel sorry for them. It's possible, for as Boweyn Arrow illustrated, there are a LOT of "instructions" in the Bible that we violate every day in modern life.
Usury (charging interest) is one of my favorites. How many Christians have home loans or work in a bank!
Also, women should cover their heads when they pray, but men should remove any cover from their head!
See what we're saying here?
This is very important. There are PLENTY of things we do today that would have been "inappropriate" 2000 years ago. I'm sure there were LOTS of good reasons to not eat pork or charge/pay interest 2000 years ago.
I'm a Big Picture kind of guy. I don't like to get mired down in semantic, rhetorical debates.
Let's just look at the 10 Commandments. The Big Law. As a Catholic, violating one of the Big 10 is considered a "cardinal" sin. The smaller ones are considered "venal".
Being gay doesn't even REGISTER on the Top 10! Moses did NOT come down that mountain and proclaim THOU SHALT NOT BE GAY.
I'm just sharing my thoughts as a gay Catholic in a sexually active monogamous relationship. And yes, I still attend mass and take communion even though the most strident Catholics would FLIP OUT if they knew that about me.
WHY DO I DO IT? Because Christ said, "take this,
all of you and eat it," thereby including everyone in the act of communion to be One. Together. As one body.
The Eucharist (and Love) is a gift from God to me, and you. And NOBODY has the right to deny me His gift.
Think about the last part for a second. His love is a gift from Him to you. Nobody can take that from you. And the best way to honor His gift is to SHARE it with someone special.
That's what I'm doing.
To hell with the haters.
