Calm down and breathe people.
I think anyone seeking knowledge and understanding of things they don't understand is commendable, and I am happy to help and support that.
You will find that many people in our community are kind of defensive, but that cones from being vilified and denied the basic rights other people have.
Feel free to ask anything, I'm pretty open and I like to expand my own horizons as well.

Right or wrong, when a lot of us older guys and gals here 'Evangelic' it translates as evil in our minds, so our reactions rightly or wrongly are generally a knee jerk reaction.
I think both sides could learn from each other if the time and place is right.
Over time us older poofters have developed a thick skin due to intolerance, evangelists haven't as is evident by the fact that this guy has only posted one post and it started with 'I'm not here to troll'...you have to stop and think.
I'm not going to apoligise for my reply as I believe it to be an appropriate response to an inappropriate post and an inappropriate manner in engaging a group of people that have been and continue to be vilified by fundamentalism AKA Evangelicalism.

The God of the old testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control - freak; a vindictive blood thirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidle, genocidal, fillicidial, pestilential, Meglamaniacal, sadomasochistic capriciously malevolent bully.
- Richard Dawkins.
Let us try to teach generosity and altruism because we are born selfish.

Ahh...Religon, my old enemy, so we meet again. LOL Just Kidding....sorta...
You see, religon played a HUGE role in making me the psychotic, nervous wreck you see before you today!
My parents met in college. My mother and her older sister, good Jewish girls from Pokipsie NY, both applied to attend Southern Arkansas University with the stated purpose of "finding a couple of "Hill-Billys" and marrying them. My Aunt Brenda succeeded, meeting and marrying my Uncle Calvin, but my mother met my dad--an Irish-Catholic Cajun from south Louisiana there on a football scholarship.
If growing with parents who were both deeply faith-filled (though of completely opposite spectrums of the Judo-Christian tradition) wasn't bad enough, when I was a wee two years old we moved to the UAE (the United Arab Emierates) where I lived, surrounded by Islam, until my early teens. THEN we moved back to Louisiana. To a small NORTH Louisiana town which was (and remains to this day) positively infested with Evangelical Christians-- Assembly of God Penychostals to be exact.
Having seen, and been around religous zealots of one sort or another for most of my life, I can honestly say that I credit their lunacy with my drive to be the best scientist I possibly can.
You see...I have truely looked into the mouth of madness....and it's name is "Religon".
