In late 2007,the country's sole electricity provider,Eskom,discovered that demand for electricity is higher than supply.Ever since then,they introduced "load-shedding".This is basically cutting off electricity to certain areas to ensure that they aren't overwhelmed by the high output.This is so frustrating!The blackouts are random and the economy is suffering.A Nigerian friend of mine told me that it reminds us SAns we live in Africa !

It is so frustrating.Robots aka traffic lights don't work and at times it takes me 1 hour just to get home.The worse incident was when a club just went dark,I couldn't stop laughing!The goverment has reassured us that by 2010,everything will okay.Oh 2010 is THEE word in SA nowadays because of the upcoming FIFA World Cup,it would be so embarassing if Eskom hasn't cleaned up it's act.marsh,thanks for letting me know are not alone.

How often do you get black outs?
In the five years that I was in San Francisco we had one black out (in the middle of the afternoon) and it lasted for about three hours.

About 2 blackouts per week.The amount of time varies,sometimes it's 1 hr,sometimes 6.The weird thing is that the electricity is only cut only within certain areas in your neighbourhood.So you might be sitting in the dark whilst your neighbours have power.

We get localised blackouts now and again... although can't remember when the last one was... easily over a year ago. It does feel weird when you're used to all this electricity and for those few hours you are without it all.
