The Twilight Saga and gay men
#11
I don't get how anyone likes Twilight, honestly. The vampires and werewolves don't resemble their classic variations in any way and it has the worst "love" story I've come across. I'm not just making an uneducated assumption either; I read the books. They were just terrible. I couldn't get past the first movie, either.

I recently talked about marriage in class and I showed a clip of the wedding sequence to my students (all females). One of them was almost in tears.

Yeah I feel the same way about Edward(R. Pattinson). I just dont see what anyone sees in him. Its like he doesnt even take off the vampire after the movie filming is over. Ive seen some fairly fair skinned Englishmen before but he really takes the cake.

Taylor Lautner on the other hand...MMMM child pulease! I'll take him and the wolf pack to go! Yes as long as he doesnt speak other than moaning and groaning cause his voice is kind of grating. lol I wish I could hire him to just walk around naked all day. Like I wouldnt even have to touch him. Just naked all day long.

A little bit of Twilight nostalgia for the fans (incl. the wedding sequence I showed to my students):

I don't care if this is porn for women, I f****** love it!

I found Edward a creepy, dangerous stalker that needed to be slayed, and I'm not surprised Twilight is about as popular among male convicts in maximum security prisons as it is heterosexual females. (Bella was similar, actually, she was just more pathetic than dangerous, or perhaps more accurate to say she was dangerous to herself, though that was probably author fiat to give Edward another chance to save her butt.) The way so many straight women love Bella is one reason I'm glad I'm not straight (though I have no idea why being straight would make women like Edward, at least not what a psycho-stalker he is).

I like to think that if I were a guy I'd still find myself feeling the same way about Edward (and Bella).

IDK who ever played Bella in the movies seemed to be more dead than the vampires. Her range of emotions is pretty difficult to detect. IDK if the books were written to have such a stoic/pale emotional character or not.

The last one with the fight scene was more up my alley for horror/science fiction stuff. I was not amused to discover that all the blood, gore was just a dream.

I think this movie series/book series was written to appeal to a female audience. Its more touchy feely than action packed.

I was disturbed by the idea that a 150 year old man (vampire) was after a girl under 18. That just didn't sit right with me. yeah sure, he looks like late teens early 20's, but he has 'lived' 150+ years... it just felt wrong.

I have tired of the Vampire and Werewolf Genre - so perhaps I'm just too jaded and exhausted by all of the takes there are on the undead. Thus I may be too critical of the movies.

I never read the books.

I just read have of the Sookie Stackhouse series (Tru-Blood) and found the books to be different than the TV show - not actually 'better'. So I'm wondering if I read the books if they would be different or better than the movies.
