Small town girls or big city boys?
#31
I was born in a big city (Cape Town) that featured something no place else does, two oceans. (The South Atlantic and the Indian) As a child, no matter where you live, there's no concept of big versus small as you have no experience of the other. Your ability to prefer one or the other is going to depend on what you personally prefer as you grow up. A big city offers conveniences and diversions no small place can match but a small town has peace and security unknown in a city, There's an unfortunate tendency for the big city people to feel that small town boys and girls are hicks, not very sophisticated and in some ways that may be true. However in a small town, one has space friends whom you can see often without relying on an infinity of messages to "set up a date", people are less competitive in areas such as dress and who you're dating so...it's a wash. The one thing that swings me to a larger city now is the access to medical attention and specialization. I have MS and it's more easily dealt with in a metropolitan area where there are specialists to deal with it. Neither side is really wrong, just very much different. On many days I'd like to be back in my city with two oceans feeding penguins at the beach and watching sharks surf with surfers....

Small town boy (but a suburb). Loved it. 30 miles from the big city, and yet wild lands around, with woods, prairie, ponds, and wildlife. After univeristy, lived in big cities. They have their advantages for adults.

Big city boy. I was born in L.A. and have only lived in Albuquerque, NM (the biggest city in New Mexico) and very close to Houston, TX (biggest city here in Texas). In fact, the first time I've actually lived far enough from the inner core of a large city that I see woods was this year when we moved about a half-hour away from where we used to live. It's still a suburb of Houston but further away than the last one we were in where we lived for over 10 years.
