It certainly seems like there is a lot of choice out there, and so it's definitely something to ponder ...

Just to address a few specific points :-

Star Twister, the PAYG Credit Card idea sounds interesting, but tbh I think it would probably be more hassle than it's worth to me topping it up all the time ...

PA, the randomising of an account number sounds INCREDIBLY alluring, but for the fact that many of the sites I go to keep your payment details for next time, so I'd have to keep saying "No no no DON'T try and use the card I used last time ... use THIS one instead" Wink.

Marshlander, air miles ? Me ?? ((( I know that's not what you were suggesting but it made me smile  ))).

Really-speaking I guess the best type of credit card for me would be one where you get some kinda cashback arrangement, so the purchases ultimately cost you less than if you'd bought them to begin with ... if that makes sense ?

Tbh I'm not even sure quite how that works - how can they possibly make any money off you if you're clearing it every month, there are no admin fees, and they're giving you money back .

I don't think it matters. With sites that already have my details, I can still use that system... with sites that don't, the e-credit card if fine... One area where I've found that using the e-credit card was a bummer was with Orange telephone company who can't (they say) let you change your credit card number and details before 3 or 6 months, thus completely ignoring the fact that such things as e-credit cards exist (for which it is silly to store any details since they change every single time)

Capital One Cashback Card!!!

Simple...

Get cashback on ALL purchases.
Introductary rate of 4% cashback for a set period (usually 3 months)
Then 1% thereafter.
Paid to you each January in the form of taking the money off what you owe.
Can't use it in cash machines (would be a MASSIVE loophole otherwise) without getting stupidly charged for it.

I treat it like my Debit Card and only spend what I can afford. I have set up a direct debit so that it is paid off in full every month and I NEVER incur any interest charges...wouldn't be worth doing otherwise. It might only work out to £100 cashback a year or so.. or a lot more if you can to afford to spend HUGE amounts of money. Although the amount of cashback is capped.. though I'll never reach the limit! lol

Better than not getting anything IMO like most other Credit and Debit Cards.

I use a credit card. I pay it on time all the time. I'm diligent when it comes to credit cards. One time someone got my credit card and they were using it to buy stamps and some MMORPG game. I got that taken care of right away.

Credit card companies to suck people in. Then these people get into debt.

I personally think it's a matter of the user's responsibility level, personality type, etc. For example, a 21 year old college student who loves to spend money and has the mentality of "spend it now, pay it off later" will get into big trouble with a credit card, whereas a more responsible individual with more experience with debt and/or money management will either a) avoid credit cards or b) only charge what he/she knows they will be able to pay off at the end of the month. Just my two cents worth!!

I've only started using credit cards since I graduated from college and had a job. Most of my expenses are charged to rewards credit card. I consider myself very responsible. I pay my full balance each month since the interest rates are 100 times more than my money in savings account earn.
