Shadow Wrote:Do you ever think that homosexuals will be fully accepted in society ?

Brighton is supossed to be the "Gay Capital" of the UK

We have just had our pride weekend which attracts people from all over the globe.....

Below is a link to our local news paper which ran an article about the clear up operation (which was false reporting anyway, the hand back of the park went very well) My point is people are allowed to comment on the article on line and if you scroll down you can see the comments others are making.

This is why I don't think as minority we will never be FULLY accepted into society.

Please note CM's comment about the second one in and also the last comment at the moment.

Shadow Wrote:"I don't agree with bisexuality" ... who the HELL gets off saying that ? HOW presumptuous !! I'm sure the entire bisexual community would be MOST put-out to hear that somebody disagreed with it ... Rolleyes.

How prevalent is this attitude amongst the gay community? Coz I find that really worrying!

I've been getting really hung up over the fact that we seem to love shoving people into boxes. As a few of you know I went through a bit of a phase of wanting to put myself in either the "gay" box or "bi" box... and just as I'm getting very comfortable with not really being in a box, it comes as quite a surprise to hear that there are gay people with such views.

I mean, I already was very aware of quite lot of "heterophobia" amongst gay people (I've actualy been a so-called "victim" of it in the past), but I just assumed bi people would just fit in amongst other "fully gay" people?????

Thanks for the word of support shadow! Bighug

I'm not sure why there seems to be so much (in my experience) hostility between homosexuals and bisexuals. Perhaps because, particularly in the case of women, bisexuality is more widely accepted than being a lesbian? I know some lesbians disagree with it because they see it as a porn approach to girl on girl action - I.E. they believe a bisexual girl goes with women only as part of threesome/orgy in order to impress men and improve pulling power.
My colleague claims he believes bisexauls are A) just greedy and B) not fully in acceptance of their sexuality (gay) yet.
Can't really comment on hostility towards Bi men as I haven't really had close experience with it, in fact I'm not really aware of ever properly knowing a bi guy!! Never thought of that til now!!!

If people dislike what I am thats there problem as long as they don't activly get in the way of me living my life. I feel I get on with both gay and straight people as well as each other.

Any more thoughts?

I wouldn't say it's MASSIVELY widespread, but it's more than just a handful of people babe ... and yeah, I agree, that IS worrying.

My rl friends know me as being quite a fan of saying (and I totally agree with you on this) that it is, in MY view, one of the downsides of the modern age that we seem to feel the need TO compartmentalise ourselves so as to fit in with a particular group or group/s.

I fear sometimes that it restricts your growth as a complete, whole and healthy individual, to fixate solely upon ANY one aspect of your life, regardless of what that may be ... so I prefer to think of myself as a happy, healthy person who happens to be gay, rather than a homo first and foremost ...

Our sexuality is naturally a very fundamental part of our lives, but aren't we more than that ?

So I agree with things like Gayspeak, where people of like-mind can come together to share experiences, develop friendships and help support each other from time to time, but I wouldn't look to join anything more regimented, as I think that misses the mark somewhat.

... but perhaps that's just me ...

I do actually yep Confusedmile: - when I was made aware of one of my mate's dislike of bisexuals I actually DEMANDED of him that he explain to me why he was adopting such a thoroughly unreasonable stance, and his answer was "I could handle a man leaving me for another man, but I could never cope with him leaving me for a woman" ...

... so I think that certainly in his case, it was his own insecurity about potentially competing with a woman that fuelled his dislike of (male) bisexuals ... it was his fear of accepting that if his lover were to wake up one morning and decide he wanted to settle down with a girl and have children, then (my mate) would have nothing to offer to compete ...

... and whilst I feel sorry for him for feeling that way, I really don't think his stance was supportable ... I mean, just because bisexual people are ABLE to find both sexes sexually attractive, DOES NOT MEAN that you will wake up one day and suddenly think "you know what love ? I'm fed up with you, I'm going to dump you and automatically go with somebody of the opposite gender" - to even SUGGEST that in my mind is to slur the bisexual community with a baseless and inappropriate remark that they just don't deserve !

It's weird, but I actually do feel really strongly supportive of bisexuality ?

I think history itself proves that bisexuality has been around since time immemorial (look at Ancient Greek and Roman practices), and IS (and I am adamant that I'm right on this) the most logical approach to sex and sexuality that I've come across, because it's the ONLY sexual bracket that ISN'T exclusive, and embraces the DIVERSITY that is the human race.

I don't know whether I'd choose to be bisexual personally, as I think the double-edge to it is that you can sometimes feel really torn, but I certainly don't have ANY problem with it AT all, and I routinely pull people up about it if they do (and I'm really not like that - ask WLM - I'm a push-over :redfaceSmile.

It's rare that I allow myself to succumb to negative thoughts, and I believe that everything happens in its proper time and place, but sometimes it feels like progress is SO slow ...

... like, the other day, my best mate's mum (whom I've been out to for a while now) - hard-nosed local racist trash that she is - said (behind my back as she doesn't have the balls to say it to my face) that she thinks it's "strange" that two men can be together (and I don't mean she said it nicely either) - basically she was starting down that "he's a FREAK because he's gay" thing ...

... and when word reached my ear of this, I was saddened on two fronts ... firstly because I've never done anything to her to warrant such disrespect; and secondly because I pride myself on being easy to get along with - I'm pretty much plug 'n play. Wouldlikemuscle was really nervous to meet me, and he settled in my company very quickly (he says with pride) - I'm just not the kinda person you need to worry about spending time with ... so for somebody that knows me VERY well to come out with such negative bollocks just kinda upset me ...

... but the POINT I'm making is that this is somebody that has had the opportunity to have me function as the ice-breaker on her prejudice ... and it made me realise that for all the good things I've achieved among my circle of friends, I really HAVEN'T made that much progress in others ... and then I started to think about other things, like one of my personal beefs ... hand-holding in public.

I have no problem with straight couples doing it, no problem at all ... but what burns me up is that I know that, certainly over here, were I to do it in public with Martyn, not only would heads turn, but people would give us shit for it ...

... do you think there will ever be a time when we will truly be accepted ?

I have my own views but I want to hear yours ...

Thanks Herz x.

Loving this........

The fact that Matthew Mitcham is openly homosexual is completely irrelevent to his wonderful win in the diving. Why on earth does your newspaper put that in the story, right near the top of the story? Would you put, 'Matthew Mitcham, who is openly heterosexual...' If you do an interview with an economist or doctor, do you include their sexuality, even if they are open about it? Of course you wouldn't. Matthew is a great athlete and has been open about his sexuality, but it had nothing to do with his win last night. Give his victory the credit he deserved and stick to what is relevent.

we have to get over the fact that we're different just as everyone is .. why be so worried about what others think? If it comes down to the same rights for all then yes - be worried, but who cares what they think? The other night I met this obviously straight guy and he was joking around and all and said I had Faggot glasses ... um ... my glasses are fab indeed but I wouldn't consider them "faggot" glasses and it bugged me a bit but I played along ... he was just talking and kidding .. he didn't really mean anything by it but he was a bit ignorant .. but we got along well and he was funny and a joy to be with ... but 2 minutes before I left I told him .. oh by the way .. I am a faggot ... he apologized profusely

So true.... it is the most harmonious position to be in I believe. But, I dont think it fundamentally supports life-long monagomy, so I can see how there is a bit of insecurity about being with a bi man.

Hmm, are hippies still like that? Having played for a hippy festival last weekend the ones I met were just like the rest of us. The rest I already knew because we'd been friends for years Wink

That REALLY confuses me ... as in, it's people already in a minority group that are flinging mud at another minority group ... it's just so weird !!

Who's to say it's a minority???
