Funny thread, last year I broke some ribs and had to have surgery, while sleeping on the couch and taking pain medicine I had a fight dream and kicked the shit out of my coffee table breaking my big toe completely in two. Talk about waking up in pain.
Not the first time but the first time I broke anything.

I usually have problem with muscle twitching as I try to fall asleep. My arms and legs are then moving without my permission.

Vivid dreams - well nightmares actually, 'fighting' in my sleep from kicking out to punching the bed, the pillow, the person in bed with me..... Talking in my sleep, screaming in my sleep until the screams wake me up... or worse just screaming and screaming and screaming until everyone in the house (humans and dogs) are in a panic and everyone terrified to touch me knowing that I will lash out and attack them in my sleep... Purely self defense understand...
I have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I also have the vivid flashbacks when awake (Thankfully far, far fewer in my 40's than in my 20's) and a few other tell tale signs that something ain't right in my attic. Given what little i know of you Partis, you have lead an interesting life and may actually have a bit of PTSD going on. If these sorts of night episodes happen a lot or frequently, you may want to start investigating PTSD and see if you match the typical profiles for it. Many people think that PTSD is tied to major traumatic events only, that isn't always the case. Spending a stint behind bars (jail/prison) can lead to life long PTSD - while you may not have been in real physical danger, the thought or notion that you were and having been helpless can lead to stress related trauma. Being part of the drug scene - yeah sure its all fun and parties, but the stress of being 'caught', potentiality arrested, thrown in prison is an underlying stress issue which can manifest PTSD later in life. Then if you hung with the thugs and dealers and the really, really cray-cray party people and felt you were living high risk - that exposure to those threats can lead to PTSD. Prolonged everyday stress such as job worries, financial worries, living from paycheck to paycheck and not knowing if you can afford rent next month is another way PTSD can kick in.... I this case the stress itself is the trauma.

I haven't done that in awhile. I did when I was in my 20s and it's a reason why I made sure nothing was where I could kick it (kicked a partner a couple of times anyway). It was one more reason to keep a separate bed which I'd use when I was especially tired (which agitated it). It seems staying awake for longer than 24 hours made it much more likely to happen.
What bothered me was how I'd used to sleepwalk as a teen...especially back when I was having terrible nightmares and I'd come to very disoriented in another room (dark). The weirdest part was when I could do things like taking off my clothes to fold them up neatly. I'd wake up really confused and disturbed by that. I was distressed later to learn of homicidal sleepwalking (and all the variants I'm sure must exist if that's real), but luckily by then I'd ceased to sleepwalk...still kicked out sometimes. I talk as well, even do a little to this day, but the words are a random salad, or if not then still so strange as to make no sense without the context (that is no idea what I'm dreaming). |
