Why Aren't You a Different Gender?
#11
I believe the (or a) theory for why some males or females display a strange amount of transgendered inclinations is because of an extra strong dose of hormones while developing in the womb (not necessarily sexual, I believe a mother experiencing a lot of adrenaline can cause the baby girl she's developing to develop a more masculine brain, for example). And for those driven to cross over to another gender, their brains are actually supposed to somewhat to completely mirror the brain of the other gender.

'Course it's not the brain that always determines behavior, adapting one's thoughts and behaviors also adapts the brain so it can be one of those "chicken or egg" questions on which caused the other. As fair disclaimer I should add that most respected scientists believe it's the brain that causes it but my own observation says otherwise. For example, our brains don't "fully mature" until age 25 and yet people so measured seem to be those who live structured lives inside of artificial bubbles whereas historically someone 17 could be a respected officer in the military and I recall reading of a 14-year-old who was a voting member in a 19th century mining town who maintained and stocked his own cabin. I could list other examples but I'll just list how it was accidentally found out that instead of getting worse as brains are supposed to do in old age a guy who was receiving regular brain scans got a job as a taxi driver and his brain's ability to remember grew to allow him to remember routes, that is he had to do it to survive so his brain adapted (just as I think "brains fully mature" when they must to survive).

And in case the relevancy is lost here I brought this up because if for some reason someone were to dedicate themselves to living as another gender for whatever reason it's possible that affects their brains so that when they get studied they appear more like the opposite gender. I personally have no idea how much "gender" is biological and psychological construct, but even a psychological construct can shape the brain and thus the biology.

But that's just a possibility, another possibility is that gender is hardwired neurologically as it is biologically in the womb and once a blue moon they sometimes don't get the same hardwiring which leads to a life of someone who feels like a member of the other gender.

Complicating it are the intersex. I don't know how common they are but apparently plenty of doctors have had experience in "adjusting" the gender of someone born with obvious traits of both. Who's to say the doctor made the right call, or should be making the call at all? And if an intersex infant was born but had a penis surgically removed and then raised as a girl who feels more like a boy then maybe it shouldn't be much of a surprise.

That all said I want to say I don't think everyone who can relate too strongly to the other gender has anything quirky with their brain (at least no more than everyone else  ), I was tomboyish for a long while but believe there were social reasons for that (would be interesting to see how my brain was then, and then when I agreed to go femme, and then now where I don't worry about it), and I know a guy who loves all that Sweet Valley High, soap operas, and even Twilight (he hates himself for that, but then so do at least a few women), but the guy has many masculine hobbies & interests as well and there's no way anyone would mistake him for any sort of transgendered. Not everything about gender is biology.

I'm a man because I was born male. Simple as that... I feel no affinity towards being male or female, I am myself, and my physical body is a part of that. I understand it is perhaps different for some people, who decisively feel that they are the wrong or right gender, but for me, it's never been such a significant issue. If I woke up tomorrow female and that was fine, I would be okay --- I just don't care.

Well it's all about how my feels feel at the time. I'm mostly got man feels and feel like I'm a man. I don't feel as tho I's a women. I feel tho sometimes I feminine when I skip around. I often skip around at work. Customers have even commented on it and that they were delighted >.<
So yeah I feel male but it's a box
There are so many boxes to try and fit in
TBH I'm not a cat and I don't love boxes like cats do either u.u

I think that, much like with race, many people really underestimate how much your experience of certain things might change if you simply "woke up tomorrow in a different sort of body." Particularly with regard to social interactions & reactions. I applaud your open mindedness and I take your post as meaning "you wouldn't mind", but I think the difference is actually substantial. After all, if it were not, why would anyone feel 'trapped in the wrong gender'?

Well for me, loads of people think I should just transition, cause I wouldn't have much farther to go lol.

But for serious, growing up, I did boy things and gurl things, probably more than the boy things, but I never truely felt like either. I may identify with my feminine side more, simply because that's where I feel most comfortable, but I know conciously I'm a boy and I like being a boy.

Perhaps similar to that tribe (whom I can't remember right now), who have a "third gender" which is generally seen as people who are androgynous or hermaphroditic.

I just am in tune with both sides of myself and while I like being a boy, being a girl wouldn't be the end all for me atleast.

And the reason I'm not a girl, is cause that's not how I feel I am.

Even if I was a girl with the same feelings, I wouldn't want to become a man either.

It's not something I feel I should have to change.

If I wanna be girly/feminine and be socially accepted, I should be able to do so as a Man or woman, not every person needs or should feel the need to transition except for themselves.

Can I just say, I can't help but play that video each time you post something o.o
It's such a good song.

Anyway...

By gender, I'm just assuming you mean the social construct, as opposed to sex, the biological thing.
Well, to be honest I'm not too sure what you're asking xP sorry it just looks like a mess of words lol...
I think my answer is that I don't feel necessarily that how I identify or feel has to have a gender name, since people are jst people after all.

I don't know actually lol. It's too complicated for me. Gender is a complicated matter.

It's okay; I'm not really sure what I am asking, either. Gender can become very limited from a social perspective, and so black and white. I would like for people just to be accepted as people as well. I guess what I am trying to get at is why are you okay with being the gender that you are? So, if you're a man, what makes you feel like you are really a man and not a woman? And vice versa. How do you know that you are the gender you are? Oh dear. Lol. This is probably making it worse. But, like, those who transition to a different gender from their biological one always seem to report that they were trapped in the wrong body/gender. I just think that's a very curious thing to explore. I'm not at all doubting that they felt this way.
It just makes me wonder how do people know that they are in the right gender?

Because I would be utterly unhappy as a woman.
Whether it is socialized or learned behavior or something else I would not be me if I was not a man.
