Are men only attracted to other men of similar body type?

Doesn't seem to be a thing in my experience.

Gross. I'm with findingmyway on this one. I don't want to be with someone who looks just like me. That's fucking creepy. Inevitably, people will share some characteristics, but I don't tend to find people who have my same build/traits more attractive.

It really depends on the person...

We cant generalize

Some people would prefer to have someone similar to them in terms of body

Some would prefer their opposites, like if they are quite bulky, they want skinny

And some wont even care

Mh I don't know a lot of gay couples but the first two in my head are "a short fit man with a tall and puffy boyfriend" and "a thin feminine with a tall masculine" so I don't know... ;-)

Me... I think I'm more attracted of 'I want to be like you' guys than my same type, both physically and psychologically, the lifestyle etc... What I recently founded very, extremely attractive is an intellectual feeling/interest about the Art, the Desing, My Sacred Drawing in general.

Um, holy shit Hank, 6'9"!!!

I have seen what people are describing here so I don't doubt that it's a real phenomena, but once again I have no problem going against the grain in that regard.

I'm just shy of 6' and am fairly broad and muscular, with a really stubborn layer of padding that never completely goes away. I'm currently (and usually) around 225lbs, which goes up and down somewhat but I'll never be mistaken for "skinny". I don't think anyone sees me as fat either though.

My boyfriend, who I'm falling so head over heels for that it scares me, is a couple inches shorter than me and probably a good 60lbs lighter.

We're opposites in a lot of other ways, too. I never had any education past college, while he has a doctorate in religious music. I'm agnostic bordering on atheist, and he's a pastor. I work in a factory and wear jeans and a t-shirt pretty much all the time, while he's always either in the "collar" or else dressed professionally. I keep my house as free of clutter and spartan as possible, while he collects books and antiques until he has nowhere to put anything. I like jazz and rock, while he much prefers classical and choral music.

We actually match up pretty well in a lot of other ways though. We're both family men and fathers. We come from similar families. We both do a lot of reading and have a mutual respect intellectually. We both have ex-wives who border on crazy. We both bake. And without going into detail, we're very complementary in the bedroom.

Honestly, I don't think we'll ever set foot in a gay bar together. Probably not ever separately, either. Well, I might be tempted to go at some point, but it's not going to be a common thing. I don't see us taking a real active part in "gay" life. We're both pretty much just living regular life.

Awesome - I'll be honest, I do know a few couples who are of mixed race and/or body type, so it's definitely not universal. And I know there are tons of men not into the "scene" who like different types.

I suppose I'm basing my inquiry mostly on the bar scene and the web/app scene, as these are where many single gay men gravitate towards to find a partner. It's there that I see the "X looking for other X" mentality on display. I don't blame guys liking what they like; I've always felt people shouldn't be ashamed of liking what they prefer in partner, as that's a personal preference.

What frustrates me is that because the paradigm of "X preferring other Xs", it's hard to tell if someone you fancy would fancy you back. I get nervous approaching guys I find attractive because of this. I'd like to break that habituated form of thinking and take more chances.

Glad to see that there are folks on here that have happy, healthy relationships with partners of differing appearance!

My husbear is a bear. I'm just an average guy... He's a bit taller than me, alot wider and alot hairier.
We're one of those different couples.

You can't really generalize by basing it off bars, online and apps.

My CNA instructor is a pretty big guy and I've met his husband and he's
this really jacked biker looking guy.

As for me, I like guys who are 'huskier' [not the dog] built? Or same if not
bigger/taller than me, but physical traits takes a back seat if and and when I'm
getting to know someone.

I've had instances when friends have said, "Why are you talking to that guy? You
guys don't seem like a proper fit..!" lols, but I just brush it off Wink

Yeah i think some masculine guys just want other masculine guys say things like " I just want somebody normal like me" … WHY WOULD YOU WANT YOURSELF!

Yeah, it's kind of sad when you read online/app posts that say..

"No fats, femmes, or Asians."

But I don't like to generalize, and I know it's not like that everywhere.
