Men treated badly in modern media

Housewives always seem to be angry and nagging it was the same with Malcolm in the middle! I guess it may be the stereotypes people want to see. I think the newspapers and gossip sites annoy me more though. If a guy is seen shopping or the gym he's instantly metrosexual and is almost victimised for doing so! Then you got women they can't do right. Mila Kunis at the moment and her pregnancy rumours are frustrating Ill admit it seems like she is pregnant but what if she wasn't? Surely every media site saying how much weight she gained can't be healthy for her?

Okay this has nothing to do with the original topic (sorry) but since we started talking about LGBT characters in movies and TV series.

I'm watching Twin Peaks at the moment and a trans character just showed up. I was surprised at how naturally the whole thing was handled. Some of the other characters were surprised and all, but there was no ridicule and she was portrayed as a decent, normal human being like everyone else

Yes I liked Twin Peaks as well.
As for the character you mentioned ,i believe was played by David Duchovony of x-files fame and he did do a good job of playing the part in Twin Peaks.

We are an "old world" type of people who are playing catch up in today's modern times.

Because to me, here- men are supposed to be tough and blah blah, so to see a guy get kicked in the nuts, is sort of exciting to me, only for the fact that I'd never get to see that ever in real life.

Granted, I have a long standing issue with males, so that type of behaviour probably would seem funny to me regardless, but I don't particularly agree with men being Dumbo's or muscle-bound rapists.


But let's not forget, some of this stuff has to be based off of something or come from somewhere.

Like awhile back I was shown a video-"comedy"- mind you, of a man telling jokes about peeing in his wife's mouth and all other kinds of weird ass bullshit and to me, that is disgusting and juvenile , no where near comedic.

It could be cause of my culture, we are very conservative in some regards, but to me, It gave me the image that all American men find this funny and are just dirty, seeing as how majourity of the men laughed. Not so much the women.


So I think sometimes guys bring it on themselves when they wanna have that mentality of "boys will be boys"/" guy code" and whatever.

Also look at that silly American show Ridiculousness- nearly evvvvvvery person in every "skit" they show is a Male and are typically doing something dumb or dangerous.

Don't forget evil male blonds, those are surprisingly common. Though the Harry Potter films had blonds of both genders be evil (or close enough) until, I think, Luna showed up (Lockhart was a dumb male blond as well having a nasty side). 'Course many of the dumb blondes in other shows are also evil or at least annoying (like snobby popular rich girl).

I'm watching Independence Day and I'd forgotten just how sensitive the POTUS (that's President of the United States) in that movie was. He's tough, but very sensitive (and actually I think that shows just how strong he is, but not many would see it that way). A nice balance. Actually, others in that movie are that way, too.

Granted, it came out in 1996. Maybe it was different then. Now that I think about it, Fox Mulder on the X-Files was also tough yet sensitive (I'd say he was more sensitive than Dana Scully was, even incredibly sweet at times...and that Dana was actually tougher). And that was also when Buffy (TV) first came out, too. And I recall the movie Lost in Space being that way as well. Maybe it was common then? I didn't watch a lot of movies and shows from the time.

I agree with you,I think Commander Sheridan from Babylon 5 was also like this tough but sensitive,and was shown to have a romantic side.
Some new shows I think just do not allow the characters to get deep enough.
