The lack of drama has its tensions, too. That is one reason why I have trouble with trolls. They so often deal in the merely obvious and are bad students of behavior.

'lol Yeah. Just so you know, David3k and yourname are the 2 bullies that made me leave the other site. I hope they both get a warning.'

That was the type of PMing he would do - basically trying to get them banned. I don't really understand the purpose of the ban though if he just quit anyway?

He quit because I called him out on his statements over 'there' this morning. He was stating that he'd left GS etc etc and other rather derogatory things. I reminded him that I could see his profile on GS and that he'd been active only a minute before. So he said look again and poof, he was gone.

Yeah, it's like watching old 70's sit-com reruns at this point to me...boring as hell. Seen it billion times. Everytime I see _______ post there (not someone we've mentioned in this thread), I think of "Three's Company" level 'humour'...and that really wasn't that funny the first time around. Sad

As for GS, so far I feel very much at home here. I like that it's open to women as well as men. I like that people are judged less and that more consideration is taken before doing so, if someone is judged. I like the warm welcomes without trolls swooping in trying to make you feel bad, or turn sour others opinions of you. I like the sensitivities of the men here, and their kindnesses, as well as the women (Rhonda, so far).
I like that there is filtering for new members to thwart drive-by trolling, and I like the features available once you pass go (50-100).

So thanks Andy, too!

One day he was looking sad and I asked what was wrong. He said that he was miserable and that he was feeling things he never felt before. He described it as a mid-life crisis. He will be 50 this year and is dating a 24 year old. So I guess I was traded in for a newer model.

These are also all the things I love about GS, too. Seems a much more mature crowd all around. Hearts1

Well, this is it. For me, it was like a new restaurant had opened in town, after the one I'd loved had gotten lame and overrun with people crass and vulgar. It's not like I decided I was never going to back, just that I was enjoying the alternative. I'll probably still use both (and a couple of others), but the degree of each is obviously dependent on how much I'm enjoying my time. If anything, have GS as respite actually makes the BS on RJ less bothersome.

Iceblink Wrote:In the US we constantly hear claims of free speech rights being violated in online forums, including on that site some of came from, when someone has a post or thread deleted or a profile is banned. Sadly, many Americans are very mistaken about their free speech rights and believe they are much more encompassing than what they really are. They forget, websites are not a government and when you are on a website, you are really a guest on someone's private property and when you're on someone's property, they make and enforce the rules including limitations on your speech. There is a reluctance on that other site to enforce its own rules for fear of sending the trolls and troublemakers away since they now make up so much of the site and hearing people scream about their misinformed rights to free speech.

Thank you!!!

One thing I would like to add, (and this is not directed to anyone here) freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. If you want to open your fool mouth and shoot out some stupidity that will make others mad, that's your right, but that also means that others can exercise that same right to criticize you, and if you make your speech somewhere like a forum, you can be banned for it. You are not being censored if you are banned. YOu can still say what you said before, just not where you said it before.

Wow, so sorry for your troubles. I hope you've got good people around you (that "yours" not "ours") who can help you deal with emotions I can't even imagine. This will likely be a long process. Best wishes as you work through it.
