I'm doing stand-up comedy tonight at an open mic. A bit tense about it, because the response last time was pretty lukewarm. (To be fair, it was lukewarm for everybody, including people I thought were hilarious. Just one of those crowds.) In the last hour, I decided to hack my longest bit down from about two minutes to a single joke, and came up with other humorous things to say about something semi-related instead. Let's see if that was the right move...

It went poorly.

I mulled it over afterwards. I decided if a comedy routine doesn't go over well, it's due to one of three things. Either the material wasn't up to snuff, or the delivery was off, or the crowd was simply not into it. The crowd was fairly restrained (common at open mic nights), but they did laugh at other comics. And I felt fairly sturdy in my delivery, even when I realized it wasn't really going over that great. So that leaves the material. Apparently, it just wasn't that funny. I did get a few scattered laughs here and there, but not enough. That's fine. I just know to toss this material, and try to come up with something funnier for next time.

^^^ That is brave Lex IMO...I have thought a lot about what stand up comics have to face. I finally settled on the feeling of skydiving and the parachute may or may not open....

Went to a World AIDS Day service Monday night. I am reminded (again) that my friend who died in 1996 at age 25 does not have a quilt panel. I talked to the woman from the Names Project and you do not need to be a family member or get their permission to make one.

I have a design in my head... only problem is I do not know how to sew. Maybe if I design it I can get a friend of mine to help me.
