I have never considered doing stand-up. I'm not sure if any place here in town has open mic. This is an interesting challenge.

I did it behind the bar during cocktail hour...and my following grew...alot....but it was nothing official. I fell into it naturally. I always liked physical and character comedy alot and so I had a captive (and drunk LOL) audience and the more they laughed the more I did it....the more they laughed...it was fun....

I liked the SNL style of playing characters which is also why my humor does NOT translate on the internet at all ...I like to use my entire body and face and all my senses...

The reason I mentioned my following...it had been a dead shift for years and the owners wanted to know how I got so many customers.....they never figured out it was the comedy and I didn't tell them...they thought it was because I was cute ***cough***I was never that cute***cough*** and I didn't want to ruin that image of me because who knows how long they would think that...I always felt like I got away with something when people thought that about me. In my experience...if you can make people laugh and have a good time...they stay and drink...get to know each other...the rich ones buy rounds for the whole bar...I make killer tips...it is a win/win for everyone....

Not everyone thought I was funny though...and that moment when you know you are annoying them or it isn't working is...awkward...but you just gotta move along and change channels....turn up the music real loud LOL

It was all informal and I just kinda fell into it though...if I had to do it "officially" or on stage there would be NO WAY...I think stand up comics are brave....I am not that brave....

I think my mind would get in the way. I never thought about anything I did behind the bar...I just did it..it flowed...

I think on stage you probably have to think about what you are saying and be intelligent about it...I couldn't pull it off. I would also blow it because I crack myself up alot and I laugh at my own humor...that would be embarrassing...

I've been funny since my senior year of high school, but moreso as I have aged. I keep my co-workers laughing at the job. I know stand-up has to be a lot more fine-tuned, but it does seem to be based on some of the same wit.

I'm going to study a couple of video clips and see what I can write of my own style and then see if I have anything worth putting out there.

My braces aren't coming off...

...oh. So does that mean you don't want the nude photos?

I just googled. Yes, there is. Smile

It's pretty instructive doing open mic. Because not only do I get low-key feedback on my own set, but I can watch a bunch of people at the same level as me. I've seen positive things where I thought "Oh, I should do something like that", like when this one guy last night took time to mention a previous comedian and his set, which gave the set a more natural flow. And I've seen plenty of negative things, where I thought "OK, I don't want to do that"...like when somebody refers to their notes too often, or leans too heavily on time fillers like "Let's see, what else is going on?" And since most of the crowd is made up of fellow would-be comedians, you know they'll at least be polite about everything. Smile

My friend in New York has been working on her act for years...she has been writing material and notes since she was a teen...she saves all of it....

(reminds me..it is her birthday...better give her a call)

Are you trying to be poetic? Unlucky in love? Being funny? Singing?

I think it's a wonderfully clever lyric, even if I'm not quite sure what the hell it's supposed to suggest.
