I have been doing a little work for money, so will have a little bit of money which I can use to open a bank account and meet that requirement for Social Security (they direct deposit). Thing is I have no idea which bank would suit my needs better and not charge me an arm and a leg and have hidden fees....

I haven't banked since 1997. So.......

PS--Bowyn, talk to the most convenient bank. You should be able to set up an account for SS deposits without having to have a minimum. My bank was glad to do that for a friend with no problems at all. Even though he prefers to do everything in cash, they gave him a debit card and he can use it to make deposits or withdrawals. He also is able to access the account online.
