I have seen a lot of the artists I really loved die lately and a lot of them were a big part of the gay scene back in the 70s/80s...I met so many of them...partied with some of them...saw most of them at one time or another at Troc or other clubs...

So...if there is an artist you loved ..pay tribute here....

The reason for this thread...I just remember Loleatta Hollway. Her voice was so powerful but her weight kept her in the background..she was the voice of Black Box but a couple of skinny girls lip synced and she never got the exposure she would have had with those songs.....

Loleatta Holloway .......(1946-2011)

It is hard to find live footage and this is not a very good recording but it is the bets I could find

One of the ones that affected me a lot was Minnie Riperton. She had a very rare voice and could hit notes that only a handful of singers could...and I remember I was listening to her in concert talk about her impending death and how she was going to face it looking at the glass half full instead of half empty. I never forgot that moment or what she said and I have taken that advice sooooooooooooooooooooo many times in my life...the glass is half full...yeah!Xyxthumbs

Thanks Minnie..beautiful lady..beautiful voice

Minnie Riperton....... (1947-1979)

I LOVE this song.....and this album...Perfect Angle..it was perfection!

...and of course...this showcased her voice for everyone

It's kinda corney for all you guys, but I grew up Italian and listened to this stuff. (and I was out drinking with some very close friends) Otherwise I'd never say this.
Jim Nabors,----YES, Jim Nabors. Actually a very good opera singer.

Sharon Redd...I saw her a couple times...the last time in a very intimate setting...she was like five feet from my face singing at the Mocambo Club... and she was so talented...had a kick ass stage presence which is something that can't be taught....

She was one of the first famous females to die from AIDS and she was big on the gay circuit back then....I was very sad when I heard she died....

She was also one of Bette Midler's famous Harlettes...I saw her with Bette as well....

Sharon Redd ...(1945-1992)

...and as one of the Harlettes..Sharon is the tiny one

Quite a nice actor

I waited on him before he died. He was in the club I worked in with Martha Raye...

He was a tad obnoxious...but alcohol sometimes has that effect on people. He was talented though and had a wicked wit

Sweet and Soulful and Sexy Teddy Pendergrass...listening to his voice can me me take my clothes off...it makes me horny as hell....Close The Door..hell yeah!

He was having sex in the back of a limo when he had an accident and was left paralyzed...he was having sex with a transsexual or drag queen..I forgot which one....

He was lead singer of Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes before he went solo...

Teddy Pendergrass (1950-2010)

I shed a tear when he died...it was sad news for me...

Phyllis Hyman...a real sad one for me. She was a good friend of the LGBT community and she struggled with depression most of her life. One of the things she talked about was how heartbreaking it was when some of the guys she visited in the hospital that had AIDS had been abandoned by their families and were alone...

She took her own life.....she lost her battle......

Old Friend....Interview with props to the late Linda Creed

Another sad suicide...Donny Hathaway...such a brilliant and talented man...and quite a loss. I was sad for Roberta Flack as they collaborated a lot and she loved him...

One of my favorite songs ever...

Donny Hathaway (1945-1979)

A Song For You

When he died he was working on this track with Roberta Flack and after awhile a lot of her friends...like Stevie Wonder and so many others...jumped in to help finish it...It was a labor of love...and I loved it...
