Gay drug curiosity
#1
Hey.
I'm not sure if this belongs here... but it felt like it would be a topic of discussion among friends (drunk or 'the good and spontaneous type of' friends) so I figured it would be good in this 'chit chat' section.
Might have been spoken before... but eh. Not to me.

Anyways

I just read a post about some guy afraid of some gay vaccine... and it brought up off and on longstanding curiosities... What about it?

I remember, years ago, reading or hearing (?) about Seth Mcfarlane having a cousin (I think) who talked about an anti-gay drug... and he found the idea offensive. (Something like that. Don't quote me, but the core is there.)

My thought is : 'Why would an anti-gay drug be offensive?' I mean, so long as it isn't forced on anyone what is the problem? (I know it could be... but drugs don't pick how they are used... so you can't use that argument pro-offense, really.)

If some dude or dudette is born gay, but they really don't want to be, and there is a drug for it... wouldn't it be cruel to disallow them to take it? (No question in my mind, it would be... the sentence just lead to a question mark.)
What about if a person wanted to be gay? Same deal, right? (Yeah... I'd think...)

The 'offense' seems to be about it "being something to be cured" but that isn't the issue.

I feel you all know what this deal is... I just want to 'stir' this pot, you know.

Hence "Chit-chat"

Anyways, ideas? Feel free to run with the thought. I can see a decent book (good to bad, depending on the writer) coming from this... so feel free to add whatever the hell you want. I'd like to see where this could go...

Have a good day.

p.s. (half-dose for bi :o :p .)

Done for its own sake, I don't see anything wrong with the idea.

However, the majority don't want a drug like that as a service. They want it as a cure. And we're the disease, not our orientation. Nor would the vast majority who pushed it on us give a damn about side effects, they'd probably be pleased by them.

It's similar to if a woman wants to cover her face for some reason then I usually don't see a problem with it. If, OTOH, she has to because of some idiotic religion then that's a completely different matter, and for most people that's what a drug like this would be. Not a cure, but another means of oppression. Even if it wasn't made mandatory (and I expect it would become so in many places, plus parents would force it on many) it would be one more "reason" to give us a hard time and say we're sick and wrong (rather than society who says we're unacceptable when they're the ones needing to be cured of their bigotry).

And there has been research done to create a "gay bomb" that turns soldiers gay (under the idiotic belief that such an army would become sorely weakened by it), and what if they succeeded? And then what if some chemist managed to make a "gay drug" out of it that could be slipped into the drinks of unsuspecting straights? You don't think would cause a mass panic that would probably generate demands for harsher penalties than possession of cocaine? Possession of deadly date rape drugs are frowned on but a gay pill that made the one drugged by it seek homosexual encounters (especially if it were permanent) would cause nations to lose it.

Such a drug would undoubtedly be forced on people and you can't so easily dismiss that by saying, " but drugs don't pick how they are used." There are many countries in this world that would force such a drug on people. There are many families, and even some doctors, that would put enormous pressure on gay people to take this drug despite how much the person resists. We've seen in the past that some governments have given drugs and performed medical procedures on patients without patients knowing. Without question, that would be done again and almost certainly at a level we have never seen before.

Such a drug would be one that alters the way the brain is working ( and that is not really making someone "not gay."). We have drugs like that and they almost always come with significant side effects and risks, but the reason we accept those risks is because they are used to treat conditions that if left untreated the consequences are worse than the side effects. When dealing with the brain and sexuality, it is very closely tied to the way the brain deals with affection and emotion, and it is very difficult to see how such a drug to "treat" homosexuality would not have side effects and risks. It seems to me it would be unethical and immoral for a doctor to prescribe such a drug with serious side effects and risks, even at the request of a patient, to treat homosexuality as if it is some type of disorder.

People that have issues with their sexual orientation stems from dealing with family, friends, and society and their expectations and acceptance. In a way, this almost seems like it would be putting drugs in one person to treat other people's problems and issues.

All the above, but I wanted to emphasize this:

Really? You rely on a comedian and cartoon animator like Seth McFarlane but not science?

Your google must be discombobulated.

I'm glad it's me reading this instead of my dad, a physician. In fact I dread someone ever mentioning a gay vaccine to him ever again while I'm around. It's not an offensive idea but it's totally out of the touch with reality if you know a bit about what it takes to produce a homosexual fetus and how it will probably never be something that can be diagnosed in the womb in our lifetimes. Now it would be a different story if it was something that killed babies you can bet tons of money would pour into medical research for it.

Personally I don't think it will ever be cured and am glad. I don't know what it is about all the people who are not of the species I call "banalis heterosexualis" but we are smarter, wittier, more caring, resourceful and cuter than boring breeders with reclining chairs, electric woks and shag carpet.

Woah I never said I relied on Mcfarlane for anything, didn't intend on dismissing anything with the drug comment, and didn't intend on this hypothetical drug to be seen as a 'seek n sneak' drug ( :o ) .
Thank you for your comments, though. I have already learned a fair amount into things I would like to learn more about.

It would be something crazy to have the drug though... I suppose the lack of problems would only come from having a perfect world...
The idea isn't about a 'prescribed' cure... I can see how force would make things like that so, in societies, but that wasn't even on the mind when i 'chit chatted' about it.

Also, meme... careful with the hetro judgement. I'd put money on the fact that there are people who are 'smarter, wittier, more caring, resourceful and cuter' yet also breeders (with recliners, electric woks, and shag carpet) than even you. (WWWHHHAAAAAA!!!)

Also: "...ever again" ? What's the story there?

well, I find it offensive.
May as well have a straight vaccine as well then.

Reminded of the X-Men movies, specifically the third one regarding the mutant cure....
The notion is absurd.

A guy I know says he has a secret recipe to turn any straight man gay....
⅓ of a 12 pack of beer
⅓ of a good bisexual porn tape
⅓ hour or rubbing his leg

I can imagine some straight men will put it in lesbians drinks so they can sleep with them it will be like the new date rape drug . Honestly why can't people just be happy happy with who they are gay , straight bi pans or whatever why the hell do we need a pill to change people's sexuality . I'm not ok with this because I can picture homophobic parents putting it into their kids drink so they would turn straight . I'm honestly tired heterosexuality being seen as the ideal sexuality ,just let people be who they are enough with this stupid nonsense .Catmilk
what is this strong desire for people to have to want everyone to be just like them and when someone is different than them they want to get rid of the person

They actually tried to do it with gay lab mice but instead of turning them straight they became asexual and didn't want to be with male or female mice . I'm glad they can't find anything too It's sicken how people would think this is ok
