Accent Test
#11
Boston, New Awlans, or Sacramento... Gee three wildly diverse choices....

To be fair, I am semi well traveled and I tend to stick to more technical words when describing stuff. Furthermore, I refrain from the use of idiom and colorful metaphors in my day to day speech.

I have what is called a 'Media Accent'. The US main news outlets have worked real hard on creating an accent-less accent for news reporting to the nation. I picked that up as it allows me to pass through places without sticking out too much as a stranger.

Its actually a survival thing and based on the need to rapidly adapt and camouflage myself around people. I have hung out with too many people who are not the nicest of folk and who would target anyone too odd....

Take Soda/Coke/Pop/Fissy drink... I will use whatever is common for the area I am currently in. And I automatically exchange names depending on who I am talking to. If I am addressing someone from the UK, you can bet I refer to fizzy drinks, chips and other UK words.

Miles Wrote:Speaking of which, I just took that test - and aside from reminding that drive-through liquor stores actually exist (:O), it pinned me within 90 miles of where I've lived since I was 11. Not bad.

Yeah...that's the one Miles.....this time I got Stockton, Modesto and Sacramento..all three relatively close as they are all Northern California

I didn't want to feel left out so I took the test too - I got Salt Lake City, Modesto and Santa Rosa (I have no idea what those accents sound like though)...I seem to be centering towards the San Francisco area, must be all that Scottish ancestry in the Bay area

My accent is a weird mix of several languages. Accents from each just kind of stuck.

So totally off. I'm born and bred in Seattle, WA. *Chuckles*

My mother is a French immigrant and my father was a Korean immigrant. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the inaccuracy in my case.

Close! the test said Modesto (70 miles away) or Fresno (120 miles away) California. I was born in Canoga Park (Los Angeles suburb) moved to Sacramento and am now in Fremont. All California cities.
That was fun! Next.........

It gave me three cities, either Buffalo or Rochester, NY, or Newark, NJ.

LOL I'm about 10 minutes from the Newark area. It nailed this location based on the use of the term "Mischief Night".
