Jazz, blues, funk, Motown, and r&b are my favorites. But I can find stuff I like in pretty much every genre.

I get in more arguments about music than anything else. Most people my age listen to the shittiest music ever made just because they're trying to be cool --- and not because it's good or even GREAT music. Back when I was in my early teens and going through that musical rebellion period. My dad pulled out all his vinyl and showed me what REAL music sounded like. Talking Heads. Rolling Stones. Bowie. Queen. Pretenders. Heart. Fleetwood Mac. Van Morrison. DIRE STRAIGHTS. Stevie Wonder. and loads more.

The dad started talking about the rare songs that are perfect -- the ones that will never be improved on by anyone since they were first released. Everyone knows most of them but there are some that have never been huge hits but no one will ever be able to improve them because they were perfect the first time they were done.
