In a historic first, the Rosetta mission, after a ten year journey of more then 300,000,000 miles, the Philae lander has landed on a speeding comet's surface.

Not only has it landed safely but it is already sending back information!

Don't belittle this achievment. It is described as one of the most audacious missions since man first launched something in to space. The Rosetta mission has travelled 300 million miles during ten years and the Philae lander, the size of a washing machine, has landed on a comet just 4 klms. long and travelling at 40 thousand klms. an hour. That is no mean feat.

Isn't that just like a tourist? Show up on a distant land, and immediately start taking selfies to post online for the folks back home?

...and this isn't belittling. It's having fun with. Totally different. Smile

No, Londoner, it's all good. They are just bantering, but not necessarily taking the piss. I think this is really interesting and have been listening to the programmes about it on the radio. It's quite exciting in fact, but you can also have a sense of humour.

Incidentally, Londoner, thanks for posting this thread. We'll have to keep watch on this science.
