Fashion Show Features Exposed Genitalia
#1
In the "thought you've seen everything" category, models at Rick Owen's menswear show in Paris sported gear designed to put their junk on display, according to the Guardian.

Somehow, I can't imagine this will take off, especially in the US.

I'm thinking maybe he wanted to send penis down the runway to divert attention away from those hideous clothes.

I have often wondered what the point of these shows is. Who is ever going to wear this stuff, and where?

Haute Couture is an art form and, as art, designers push the boundaries of the acceptable. Sometimes the more shocking the better.

This barring of the generals doesn't surprise me one bit precisely because of what I was saying in your other thread on A&F -- namely that the commercialization of male eroticism has slipped beyond corporate control via the internet and the ability of anyone to make and distribute their own nudes (not to mention actual porn).

Okay, so there was never an intention for this to be used for anything other than the experience of these shows? I understand the difference between haute couture and ready-to-wear, but I thought even the clothes made at that level were still (mostly?) to actually be sold and worn.

The intention is to get ATTENTION… its all about getting attention in the market place. LOOK AT THAT!

See, even your posting ABOUT it here has caused all of us who look at this thread to KNOW about something happening that we didn't know previously -- our attention was turned to it. Now, it doesn't matter whether we like it or not, or would ever "wear" it or not… that's not the point. The point is we LOOKED and in doing so gave a moment of attention to the designer.

Of course WE aren't important. What this is all about is establishing a "NAME" in a very very very competitive market. The more widely known the name, the more influence and (therefore) money it can command.

Huh. I've heard of circumcised/uncircumcised guys referred to as having a "crewneck" or a "turtleneck"... but this brings a whole new dimension to the idea.

Sure, makes sense... if this guy has a ready-to-wear line, some segment of the buying public may check it out due to the buzz. Although the garments in this case look like they were designed for pervy monks.
