But they aren't done fighting it even though SCOTUS declined to delay it.

The state chief justice, the infamous homophobe, Roy Moore issued orders for probate judges not to issue licenses to gay couples. According to him in past statements and head of the state supreme court, as a christian he does not have to obey the laws and higher court rulings if they conflict with his beliefs. Also according to him, the 1st amendment only applies to christians.

If you haven't heard of Roy Moore google him and find out what a arrogant jerk he is.

I sure would love to piss in his shoes.

Gay couples in Birmingham got licenses and were married today.
In Tuscaloosa where UA is, gay couples were refused.
Shelby county, an affluent Bham suburb closed its marriage license office.
In Mobile gays were refused and have already filed a contempt of court suit against the judge.

In other news....
Here in South Dakota things are moving slowly and quietly towards it happening here.
The issue has been taken up by the
Red Hatters
and a couple of businesswomens associations.

To let you know a bit of history behind that...
Local Red Hatters and the states chapters of
National Organization of Women Business Owners
comprise the two biggest behind the scenes political forces in the state.

And because of this....
There's not one politician trying to get headlines about gay marriage.

We can't know for sure how the Supreme Court rule on this issue this June, but this Alabama case seems to be an important one beyond Alabama. The federal judge that struck down the Alabama marriage ban issued a temporary stay to give the state a couple weeks to appeal to get the stay extended. The 11th Circuit refused to extend the stay and then the Supreme Court refused by a 7 to 2 margin allowing marriages to begin today. They did the same thing in Florida, but this was the first one since they agreed to take the cases in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Florida and Alabama were just two of many states that have followed a similar pattern, giving an indication of how they might (and will likely) decide. Another indication happened last week when Michigan, one of those states whose case is before SCOTUS, tried to not recognize the marriages that happened in the brief window between a federal judge striking down the state's marriage ban and a stay being issued. The state was ordered to recognize those marriages. After Prop 8 being dismissed, DOMA being struck down, marriages happening in 37 states and DC, Missouri not allowing same-gender couples to marry but recognizing those married elsewhere, some marriages ordered to be recognized in Michigan, and the federal government recognizing marriages in all states whether the state does or not, could the Supreme Court really step in reverse all this, especially seeing how they have had a chance to step in and stop marriages going on in every single one of these states where a ban was struck down by a lower court? I don't want to get too overconfident because I do not want to be disappointed, but I am getting more and more hopeful everyday.

Virge, I am correct in thinking that no politician in their right mind would wear a green hat other than on March 17?

I keep hearing train whistles.
I bid NO Trump!

Ice.. Thanks for the info in your 1st comment. As I was reading I was thinking exactly what you said in the last line about not want to get hopes up. It's good to see Hard won against the Cucking Funt Roy Moore and some Biotch who was his mother in law.

If you want to know just how sick Roy Moore really is here's a link to his lyrics for "America the Beautiful"...

Here's a county map of Alabama with which ones are and aren't issuing licenses
