But they aren't done fighting it even though SCOTUS declined to delay it.
The state chief justice, the infamous homophobe, Roy Moore issued orders for probate judges not to issue licenses to gay couples. According to him in past statements and head of the state supreme court, as a christian he does not have to obey the laws and higher court rulings if they conflict with his beliefs. Also according to him, the 1st amendment only applies to christians.
If you haven't heard of Roy Moore google him and find out what a arrogant jerk he is.
I sure would love to piss in his shoes.
Gay couples in Birmingham got licenses and were married today.
In Tuscaloosa where UA is, gay couples were refused.
Shelby county, an affluent Bham suburb closed its marriage license office.
In Mobile gays were refused and have already filed a contempt of court suit against the judge.
In other news....
Here in South Dakota things are moving slowly and quietly towards it happening here.
The issue has been taken up by the
Red Hatters
and a couple of businesswomens associations.
To let you know a bit of history behind that...
Local Red Hatters and the states chapters of
National Organization of Women Business Owners
comprise the two biggest behind the scenes political forces in the state.
And because of this....
There's not one politician trying to get headlines about gay marriage.
