hybridization proposes the "combination" of orbitals while a molecule is formed

methane: carbon shares it's p electrons while hydrogen shares it's s electrones

one S orbital and three P orbitals make up for 4 hybrid orbitals called sp3, which take a tetrahedral geometry...
