Push bikes are band in parts of the countryside in the UK because of the damage they do to the Environment, before you go all defensive. You more likely haven't heard of the sport Down Hill Biking, and haven't been on a nice walk when you hear and see some tit fly pass you and hit someone you are walking with in the back. They you go over to them and help your friend up experting the thick guy on the bike to help to but just get up and carry on down the hill.
And about 25 people in the UK die from being hit by push bikes. You wouldn't happy if got hit by some twat on a silly bike would you.
And if you are saying a 5 year old is safe riding their bikes around the roads in the UK I would think again. I thing bikes should be insured and tax , and children under 12 years old shouldn't be any where near the roads in the UK anyway.
I really hate driving along and then needing to be extra careful when you see a family riding their bikes down a fast moving country road and then when you are driving around the country lanes around where I'm from you seen theses totally think townies riding there bikes around the lanes like they are in town and not thinking that the lane are on is a single lane road that two cars couldn't pass each other and when you come to a corner you should get off the bike and walk on the side of the road that an on coming car see you so that they can slow down to pass you.
But oh no because you are a push biker you know more than any one else.
Frank sorry if this sounds personal but I'm guessing you haven't ever ridden a push bike around the country lanes of the UK...
first, wanna make sure I understand what push bikes are. meaning non-motorized bicycle? pedal bicycles?
*** please read my post carefully. I wrote the damage done to the road and others is LOW. Yes, there are idiots on bicycles but the % of idiots in cars is much greater. The heaviest bicycle/cyclist could never do the damage of the lightest car on the roads or others. Just an impossibility. Now, if Down Hill Biking is illegal and not part of the law of the road then those breaking the law should be punished to the full extent of the law. As should motorist who break the law.
Um, I would love to see that published fact of 25 UKers killed by cyclist/year/decade/history??? I cant find any deaths let alone that large a number... but I may not be using a good google phrase. And of course NOT. I would NOT like to be hit by any twat at all.
I did find this from the WHO:
Quote:Europe - In 1995, according to a 1998 World Health Organization Press Release WHO/57 , two million traffic accidents resulted in 120,000 deaths and 2.5 million injured people in the whole European region. One in every three road traffic deaths involved people younger than 25 years of age. Pedestrians and bicyclists were particularly vulnerable groups, making up 45% of all road deaths in the United Kingdom. In Hungary, the proportion was even higher, over 50%, but in most Western European countries it was substantially lower (17% in France, 20% in Germany and around 30% in Denmark and the Netherlands). In motorized traffic the highest-risk group was motorcyclists, with a death rate ten times higher than for car occupants, and an injury rate six times higher than that of car occupants.
pretty amazing stuff here:
International Injury Fatality Statistics If I am reading the chart correctly it seems that ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ranks much higher than WAR...
and please refrain from calling bikes silly. They are one of the greatest inventions ever created
Quote:(Bicycle voted as best invention
For the second year running, the bicycle has won this national survey of the people's favourite inventions.
Professor Wolff's praise of the bicycle followed a vote prompted by this year's Reith Lectures, 'The Trumph of Technology'. Out of over 4,500 votes cast, the bicycle won more than half (59%).
People chose the bicycle for its:
simplicity of design
universal use
because its an ecologically sound means of transport

and used by zillions of people around the world helping to make for a greener world. The same saying goes for guns right. There is no bad gun just bad people who use guns... same for cars and bikes.

Also, hope this isnt taken personal but what you just wrote gives the impression that you not only dont know the rules of the road, unless it is very different in the UK vs USA... Just because you HATE something doesnt make you CORRECT! I would like to see a regulation where cyclist should get off the road for your pleasure... and haste...
Usually, but NOT always, cyclist know the rules of the road much better than motorist as it it they who will more likely die in a crash but most motorist HATE being extra careful with the rules.
and you are correct. I have NOT ridden a bicycle around those types of roads but if one does follow the rules of the road and not a silly twit then all can share the road as is the usual law.
btw, I never hate
