Curt, Big Ben is NOT a clock but the bell in the tower.... So it's neither a building nor the clock that tells you what time it is. It is the bell chiming that very famous chime in the Buildings of Parliament. I'm sure there's a Wikipedia page on it.

Incidentally the bells of London churches have been made famous in the children's nursery rhyme called "Oranges and Lemons".... You are considered a true Cockney if you were born within the sound of Bow bells (Saint Mary le Bow?) ... (in East London).
