Study links homosexuality to eating grits
#1
Well, at least they agree that homosexuals are born and not made.

every scientist knows that interpretation of test results is a tricky thing, and it often needs a wider perspective on a whole lot of other things, other than just the lab results.

i think this is a bit overblown, if not ridiculous. of course, grits doesn't turn semen gay. lol. there may be some common denominator between men who have a taste for grits and men who are likely to produce a homosexual offspring. but eating grits = homosexual offspring, very much doubt that.

also, the substance called ''homotonin''? wikipedia has never heard of such a thing. and running a google search on the term produces only 85 results altogether, and they're all linked to this grits study. it all sounds kind of made-up news now.

It's ridiculous. Pretty much everybody in the southern US eats grits at one point or another. We would be seeing population collapse by now if there was any truth to it.

Isn't the Daily Currant a troll site a la Onion anyway?

and here you go:

fake study

Quote:First off, a substance called “homotonin” does not exist. It was apparently made up by the writers of this story.

Quote:The article claims that Edmund Bergler was the lead researcher for the imaginary study. In reality, Edmund Bergler was an American psychoanalyst who dictated theories on homosexuality in the 1950s. Bergler wrote a book in 1956 called Homosexuality: Disease or Way of Life which espoused theories that homosexuality was a psychological disease which could be cured. He died in 1962.

Quote:Since that time, Bergler’s theories on homosexuality have been rejected, are viewed as dated, and are not widely accepted by the field of psychology.

Quote:Although the Daily Currant published this story back in May, it continues to circulate through social media channels like Facebook and Twitter. It seems difficult to think that people actually believe that these satire stories are true, yet it is possible that some only view the headline before linking the story to friends.

Quote:After investigating further, the scientists discovered that chemical processing of grits creates a substance called homotonin, which acts as a free radical inside a man’s testes and damages his sperm’s DNA.

That DNA damage is passed onto the child and researchers believe it is responsible for the later development of homosexuality.

“Gay people like to say that they are born that way, and they are right,” he explains. "The DNA damage that causes homosexuality happens much earlier, even before conception.

"Homosexuality is a choice. But it's the father's choice. What he eats for breakfast determines the orientation of his child."

I ate grits once, and I'm gay. Proof positive, right?

And yes, the Daily Currant is a rather poor satire site.
